Question about Mystic Warrior

Unread post by rifter72 »

So my question is about the Psi-Tomahawk and Psi-Spear, both get +1D6 per each subsequent level of exp. Does subsequent mean each level? :?

yes I'm a little confused, and if it is why not say per level?

Subsequent means -coming after- or -following-. It is an alternative way of saying -additional-. Basically it means start at level 2, do not include 1. It does not mean per-level.

"with each level gained after gaining the power"

The wording is different because the writer wanted to make sure not to be misunderstood.
+x per level means that the char gets a +x for for every level the char has over level one.

In the way it is written the char's level up for that power is like how skills gained while level-uping are counted from the time they were gained.

Thus, using the asked about as example, they would if gained @ L6 would have a +1d6 to the damage @ L7 for that char. And then @ L8 they would have base+2d6 damage.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

No it doesn't, unless it has something like 'additional' or 'subsequent' or similar, you do not skip level 1, you include it.

If 'per level' had the same meaning as 'per additional level' or 'per subsequent level' then things lacking a base amount of damage or range would have 0 range or 0 damage at level 1. We have to assume the per-level includes level 1 for that reason.

South America page 110, the Flying Tiger has a 'per level' for the duration of and MDC bonus for his force field, and a 'per additional level' for his force blast MD boost. If a level 1 guy had a 90MDC field then it would have to last 0 minutes.

Atlantis92 for Lightning Bolts has a 'per every 2 levels' which similarly does not mean additional (2 additional levels would be level 3) since the damage is explained as boosted at 2nd level.

Pantheons64 lists the MDC of Marcus' Invulnerability tattoo as the per-level times his level, not times 1 less his level. Similarly the damage of his Fire Bolts follows this pattern.

If we look at NPC examples of how to interpret per-level text we can see this includes level 1.

The only exception to this I can think would be skills since they exclusionary text with examples to skip level 1, so in those cases you assume an unwritten 'additional/subsequent' applied to the per-level statements, just omitted for brevity.
