Conversion from BTS question
I am rolling a natural athlete from Beyond the Supernatural for my upcoming Rifts campaign and I was wondering how to handle something. I spent the 13ppe to turn my PS supernatural (which is sitting at whopping 32 thanks to stellar dice rolls and a couple skills). Seeing as my PS is supernatural and I am still an SDC being am I at risk for blowing an arm off the first time I throw a full strength punch? Also, I should be converting as per conversion book 1 right?

Just because you are an SDC being doesn't mean that you hurt yourself throwing an MDC punch, otherwise you would blow your lungs out sneezing. it is taken as a matter of cannon you can't hurt yourself using strength unless you are trying to.

You're safe from exploding your arms when attacking.
The rules aren't that detailed, and even if they were, Supernatural PS is funky enough physics-wise that it should protect you from hurting yourself.

Re: Conversion from BTS question
There's no reason why you should have to worry about injuring yourself, although you can always look at the Titan Juicer of an SDC being who has Supernatural PS and deals mega-damage with his punches but requires protective gauntlets or takes some minor SDC damage with each punch. But that's because he's not quite a supernatural being even though he has supernatural PS, so I imagine the question is does your character qualify for the supernatural being status to fear no injury from his punches.
Fair warning: I consider being called a munchkin a highly offensive slur and do report people when they err in doing so.

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

Re: Conversion from BTS question
Not to say the others are wrong, out right, they are making the assumption that the ability you bought turn the PS into true SNPS and not a SNPS equivalent like the Titan Juicer has. The TJ needs to have protective gear to avoid from hurting themselves.
However, they are not wrong in that if your char has true SNPS he will not need protective gear because of the mystical nature of the ability you purchased will protect the char from damage.
In the end it will be you GM that will decide which it is before he lets the char into his game.

Supernatural PS by definition breaks the laws of physics.
Whatever the "non-supernatural equivalent" of Supernatural PS might be, it's something "non-supernatural" that still breaks the laws of physics.
It works the same way, it's just somehow supposedly not supernatural.

So you are disagreeing with the canon JU text about the titan juicer's PS or was that just an 'off the cuff' response?
I would recommend reviewing said text.

Probably everything after "whatever." If the TJ says he needs protective gear to keep from hurting his hand because he doesn't really have true SNPS and your statement says even if you don't have true SNPS your fine punching stuff without PPG how is that not saying that the Titan Juicer since they have SNPS equivalent should be protected from damaging themselves?

I did ask you if comment was an 'Off the Cuff" (aka "knee jerk" but said more politely) response, and asked you to review the TJ text before commenting further.

Re: Conversion from BTS question
Thank you all for the responses, I will no longer live in fear of exploding my arms like hotdogs in a microwave for too long. Another question related to the PCC itself: I chose the security specialist as my occupation, do I really not get any kind of bonus to basic electronics or is that a typo? It's one of the main skills, not related or secondary. It just struck me as odd is all.

That's a pretty useless comment.

That's a big IF.
Feel free to quote the book, if you think that the book states that anywhere.

Yes. And I asked you a question.

Re: Conversion from BTS question
Is getting a bit off topic and is going to let KC DIY it through his JU book to find out how non-canon his statement was.
And not get in a big argument over this since I've already gotten my fill over arguing this point since JU came out.

Re: Conversion from BTS question
For anyone interested in the passage from JU: "The smallest Titan
can dead lift 3,000 pounds (1350 kg), with over two tons being
the common limit. Their physical strength is the equivalent to a
supernatural being, so Titans can punch through power armor
plating and slug it out with mega-damage creatures. Despite the
Titan Juicer's great strength and mass, it is recommended that
armored gauntlets be worn to protect their flesh and bones —
which are still not quite as tough as true supernatural beings and
creatures of magic like dragons (or the psychically enhanced
Mega-Juicer)." Looks like it's mostly just a recommendation.

I looked.
You've got nothing.
Edit:
Actually, you DO have something. I just misread the passage initially.
Now I see the part where gauntlets are specified.

Eh.
It's still just a recommendation, not a rule. There's no damage listing. There's no description of what would happen.
A GM could use it as a basis for a ruling that gauntlets we're required to avoid the level of damage that you describe.... Or they could rule that the worst that would happen is bruised knuckles.
Any way you slice it, Supernatural PS gained via psychic powers aren't the same as Supernatural PS gained by taking a lot of drugs.
We're talking about converting BtS psychics, and the conversion books don't say anything about them needing gauntlets that I remember.
