Yup, just like books and pre rifts memoribilia will survive. But what happens when the CS finds someone celebrating Christmas or Hanukkah? Nothing like getting your home ransacked for a first offense.

There are infractions and infractions - and grunts that don't give a damn as long as it doesn't bring trouble in one's work hours. If it doesn't rile the stalkers or the doggies, why not look to the other side with an old lady's helpful cup of eggnog to warm the belly?

But, well, who knows...

Yeah, I remember how the SS units were all oh don't worry the regular troops are fine helping those Jews across the border and that guy playing with the dradle he is fine too, I here the Furer enjoys the occasional dradle spin too. Lets go.

Wait a second you work for the CS PR agency don't you? Trying to make em look good.

Nah, just an old soldier - you only fight what you have to. Keep my friends close, my dogs closer - and 3 spikes, 1 iron, 1 silver and 1 wood, under the belt like my granma taugh me, just in case. Getting all family & friends hunkered together so close to the Solstice is good folk wisdom.

Funny names and religion talk is for officers and fancy book-reading folks we burn when the perp quota is low. :clown:

If anybody asks, it was the bookseller that incinerated the captain - I'm pretty certain the ink fetishist was an unregistered psychic, my dog-bros and the little psi-stalker pet walker girl can vouch for it. Never a dull day or night in the 'burbs. :P

And if you see a new thing for the first time, throw a stone upon it - if it yelps or cries, it's mundane, don't waste the e-clips on it. If it ignores or gets agressive, it's MD and start shooting the hell out of it until it dies or you get out of its sight.

Now getting a little back on track, while i said a bunch of stuff jokingly in the previous posts, it does have some application.

A variant of Christmas would most certainly survive in places simply because a "get together so its safer for all our loved ones" time so close to the winter solstice, due to climate and rifts both is a matter of good sense and conservation through survival. Food, drink, gifts and other stuff would provide entertainment and distraction while waiting it out in their homes cellars or a communal bunker. Not to mention a little rite or two, like staying under the mistletoe, putting a collar with an iron horsehoe and such that might help in detecting mischievous faerie or a few shapechanging critters.

Santa Claus might mutate from a bringer of gifts into some sort of protetor against the darkness - red is a very attention grabbing color for humans, specially in winter, so a person or power armor walking in bright red is a pretty effective way of saying "all monsters gone, you may return to your homes now".

Read, something between modern Santa Claus and Santa Bot from Futurama - doubly effective if a Glitterboy or a Psi-Stalker in a dog-sled painted red in the fluids and bowels of any monsters or marauders it came across. :D

In more tightly secured and controlled urban areas around the CS citadels and burbs most humans probably commemorate in their homes and community centers rather than actual hideouts and bunkers, CS troops and supremacist youth gangs are probably more trigger-happy than ever, with some more gloryhound or gung-ho types looking for excuses to "paint it all red for humanity" and collect gory trophies, making it a time for D-bees, magicians & mutants to hide out well and run away pretty fast from CS territory.

Just a rough sketch of things that crossed my mind, hope you like...

Yeah, that's the spirit - and as most people can't get themselves a 'Neeman' or angels for the occasion, Glitterboys, Samas and other power armors will do. Nothing for true Defenders of Humanity to make a case against there. :D

Really? How about anything NEMA is contraband, being close to the name is grounds for investigation, the kind where you are nicely asked to exit your home... at gunpoint. Then your treated to a five star stay at a luxurious CS government room using minimalist design with bars for your security and licking door... oh wait they said five bar not star. And I've just been told they keep the keys. All this for your convenience while your house is gently searched. Afterward they'll even provide free security for several months.

Like people doing it for the sake of a commemoration care about finicky legalisms - get an old Samas or Gladiator, retouch it's look to fit popular image without trying to be too precise, paint the bright color of one's preference and spread the gifts for kids, it's a holiday not a historical reconstruction event.

Most people would probably not even recognize NEMA craft as anything beyond big and shiny...

Yeah, but with some snow over armor and low ambient temperatures involved, a lazy GM has some handwaving room for it.

Thought you might tackle some other stuff, like the fact a number of D-bee and monster races might have weird body fluids that are in no way close to red in color... :-P

Ok, I happened to be reading through my Rifter 68 last night. I noticed something. In the -Official- Information pertaining to Rifts and MiF There is a fluff section with a secret meeting between an NG rep, the CS Military and the Vanguard.

Why do I bring that up here?

In the official section there, the CS officer makes reference to Christmas. More over it's made off handedly as a point of reference that neither the mage nor the NG rep blink at. Thus it's inferred that not only does the CS -have- Christmas, but so does NG and those out side the megacities as well.

So in Rifts Canon, he CS have Christmas. (Now which aspects of it are maintained could be in debate) and it's so common as to be used as a common reference point as to when something happened.

Well, before anyone feels compelled to say something like it, i'll point out that in general Rifter articles canonicity may vary, only definitely counting as so when specifically stated in the paticular article or magazine itself.

That said, still very good call indeed.

Emperor Prosek's Birthday: CS-citizens are encouraged to 'donate' any amount of their credits to the Coalition Armed Forces Fund for Retired Officers & Their Families.

CS-Founder's Day: Generally accepted as the day the Coalition States became formalized. All working citizen receive a half-day off (as long as production schedules are not impacted).

CS-Liberation Day: Generally accepted as the day the area where Chi-Town now stands was 'liberated' from the occupying D-Bee scourge. All working citizen receive a half-day off (as long as production schedules are not impacted). Both Founding & Liberation Days are scheduled at least 4 months apart from each other, so as not to impact production schedules.

CS-Victory Day: Acknowledging the CS victory over the forces of Tolkeen & The trecherous Kingdoms of Magic.

CS Christmas is a holiday celebrating Lynette Christmas Karl's great grandmother who was born on Dec. 25th in remembrance of love for others gifts are given out and her love of coniferous trees, candles and the colors red and green.

NG Christmas dunnoh, but it's a time of cheer and family and family is good so lets keep it up... plus it's good for business.

LZ Christmas Christian celebration of the birth of one of their triune God. Because we respect all faiths... that don't call for sacrifice or anarchy.

Really bad idea.
Toy guns may be very common on Rifts Earth to train the little ones in gaining self-defense skills, but ones that actually SHOOT projectiles? Bad idea. Most people on Rifts Earth have very well-developed fight-or-flee reflexes, and more likely than not if you shot a candy bar at somebody, you'd either be wasting perfectly good food or you'd be dead from the retaliatory fire before the Hershey bar hit the ground.
Putting a red 'no-gun' muzzle ring on the end does no good either, since even if that convention was still followed on Rifts Earth, truly diabolical characters will abuse it for the moment's hesitation it causes law-abiding people before they get wasted by the 'toy' gun.

And the Turning of a Page"
