Prior to RUE, there was only the default, generic called shot. Now we have both the called shot and the aimed/called shot.
I was wondering, how does this relate to sharpshooting bonuses?
Here is an example: This character has a PP of 30.
He makes an aimed shot for two attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +3
He makes a called shot for two attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +5
He makes an aimed/called shot for threee attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of ?
I am assuming the answer is either 5 or 8, I just don't know which...

I've always assumed with an aimed called shot that the sharp shooting bonus is the largest one available between the two actions.

Re: Rue, Sharpshooting and the Aimed/Called shot
Sharpshooting is a special case skill that does allow special PP strike skills.RGG wrote:PP skills bonus are never added to gun firing... Check the rules.
It is my understanding that PP bonus is only for Melee or hand to hand combat, firing weapons do not get that bonus, at least I never allowed it. You need 5 or better to hit, if you aim you need a 2 or better... Of course the target might get to dodge unless your shooting from a distance and it is a surprise attack.

I was curious about this as well,

Same example:
-This character has a PP of 30.
-Normal single shot for one attack receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +3
-Firing a normal burst for one attack receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +3
-He makes an aimed shot for two attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +5
-He makes a called shot for two attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +5
-He makes an aimed/called shot for three attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +5
As there were plenty of people who said the gunfighter was one of the favorite characters I would like some feedback on this one.

Having looked at this last night this is almost right
normal shot would be +3
normal burst +3
Aimed shot two attacks +5 bonus
Called shot two attacks +3 bonus
aimed called shot three attacks +5
Basic called shot does not get the +2 bonus for aimed shot have to do aimed called shot for the extra +2.

Greetings and Salutations. This shouldn't change too much to be honest with you. The main thing is the words used, and possibly attacks per melee. But we'll walk through it with your example.
Giant2005 wrote:Here is an example: This character has a PP of 30.
Check.
Giant2005 wrote:He makes an aimed shot for two attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +3
Yes, no, and maybe. The +3 part is accurate. But now let's look at the "attacks per melee" part. As per RUE, aimed shots take two actions. Within New West, there's no mention of this costing two actions. This is important. Let's look at the reasons this might be.
1: Sharpshooting makes this not cost an extra action. As a result, taking an Aimed Shot with Sharpshooting is faster.
2: Aimed shots costing an extra attack per melee is a rule change (I don't know Rifts well enough to say for sure). So we'll need to add this to the skill as per the RUE change.
3: It's always cost an extra attack per melee, Palladium just forgot.
Depending on which option you believe, this affects further application.
1: If this subtracts an attack per melee, then this could apply to the other special aimed attacks as well.
2: If this is a rule change, we should probably add an extra attack per aimed strike.
3: A mistake repeated in New West and RGMG. This unfortunately wouldn't help at all or explain much. Looking at the skill as a whole, I also find this the least likely. I'll explain as I go.
Giant2005 wrote:He makes a called shot for two attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of +5
Negative. A "called shot" that costs "two melee attacks" (per RUE) does not gain "aimed" strike bonuses. The +5 bonus includes "aimed" as a factor, so not applicable here. A "quickly aimed" Called Shot isn't a "true" Aimed Shot, and closer to a wild shot. At best, you get Weapon Proficiency bonuses (which in RUE, are separated more from Aimed bonuses).
Giant2005 wrote:He makes an aimed/called shot for threee attacks and receives a Sharpshooting bonus of ?
The answer is +5. Let's look at Sharpshooting again. This is a "Called Shot," but it also mentions "Aimed shots only." In other words, this has to be an "Aimed and Called Shot." How many attacks this costs brings us back to the earlier question.
1: If we rule they cost less attacks, then this costs 2 attacks as listed.
2: If we rule this is a rule change, then this costs 3 attacks (same as listed in RUE) by adding the cost by one attack.
3: If not just listed, then why did they list it here? Another inaccuracy? Possible, but making it less likely. This is also the least consistent with the rules.

Hopefully breaking down the information helped and you have the answer you're looking for. Thank you for your time and patience, please have a nice day. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

I'll buy that, I think that is how I'm going to run it (after another reread as I read it last night too).
