Pre/Fan-Made Adventures/Events?

You are on your own. The Army is MIA and our government is gone! There are no communications of any kind. Cities and towns have gone dark, and zombies fill the streets. The dead have risen and it would seem to be the end of the world. Help me, Mommy!

Pre/Fan-Made Adventures/Events?

Unread post by Eric42 »

So, this October may end up being a month of Dead Reign for me, if I can get things up and running. I am hoping that I am not starting too late for this at my LGS, but if nothing else, I am hoping to get things going on a Discord RPG server I am on.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any adventures, events, etc that they'd done available online that I can use or borrow things from. I am having a little bit of trouble in putting together things to do without turning it into something that I am not sure people would want in such a game. Of course, I'll have to play it by ear and see what the potential players would want to do.

What kind of game are you looking to run? What is your group like? What kind of characters are you hoping to have? I have lots of stuff that I have put together over the years, but most of it was for a particular campaign, and isn't really suitable for drop-in adventures. Give us a little more to go on, and maybe I can help you out.

I have no group as of yet. I'm just trying to have something already made up before I start trying to find people. I have a few ideas and my own little back story to how it all started but I'm looking for more content.

I don't mean to sound repetitive, but could you be a little more specific about what kind of "content" you are hoping to get. I am happy to help, as I am sure are others on the boards, but a little more focus might help. Do you need NPCs, encounters, weapon stats, house rules, treasure tables, entire campaigns?

I am just looking for fan made adventures and stuff that others have made. I am not looking for anything in particular, I guess. Just stuff people have made.

Okay here are three interconnected adventures, along with character descriptions for the first.

SCENARIO #1: Terror at 30,000 feet

Hook: British Airways Airbus A380 en-route non-stop from Hong Kong to Atlanta (18hr flight time). Early into the flight, several (almost half) of the passengers take ill. They are moved to the middle deck (economy class) to get the infection under control. Within hours they die of hemorrhagic fever, and begin to turn. A stewardess, or two, are killed/turned and begin to attack the rest of the passengers/crew. In the cockpit, the navigator has taken ill, and when he turns, attacks the flight crew (captain puts the plane on autopilot prior to dying).
Characters: 1. Air Marshall escorting prisoner from China to US for extradition (good close combat skills)
2. Chinese Triad prisoner under federal custody (good gun skills, begins game handcuffed)
3. Co-Pilot (transportation/navigation skills, sleeping in private cabin while outbreak occurs)
4. British Naturalist returning from China trip (good survival skills, biology skills)
5. Chinese/American Doctor returning to US with her teenage son (medical skills)
6. Teenager/Skater-kid (athletic, stealthy, a few "rogue" skills)
7. Marine Corps Sniper (all-around “perfect” survivor)
8. Chinese Diplomat (Spy)( Good combat skills, investigation, espionage skills)
Line: The players are all on one deck together (first class). With the roar of the engines, and the sound-baffling of the airplane, they are unaware of the carnage one floor below. When they finally become aware of the situation, the zombies are already coming up the forward staircase. When the plane reaches Atlanta the autopilot places it in a holding pattern over the airport, but there is only 1 hour of fuel left, after the 18hr flight. If Co-Pilot is killed/incapacitated, the Naturalist can fly single-engine fixed wing aircraft, and can land the jet at a penalty.
Sinker: The players have to fight their way to the lower deck, to access the cockpit, and safely land the aircraft. There could be as many as 550 zombies aboard by the end, so a plan that does not involve mass combat should be pursued. Looking out the windows shows signs of trouble on the ground, and the air-traffic control tower does not respond. The runway of the airport is blocked by two collided jets (on fire), so the players have to put the plan down on the interstate freeway, which destroys the landing gear.
Provisions: Plenty of food/drink (6 galleys), Kitchen Knives in each galley (bolted to the wall on shock cord), Air Marshall’s Sig P229 (.357 SiG Glaser Safety,12 rounds) +1 extra Magazine and ASP Baton, 2x Glock 34 (9mm, 19 rounds) in a red and gold suitcase in the hold smuggled aboard for the Triad to make his escape, he knows about this plan, and the approximate location of the suitcase. Pilot’s Sig P226 (.357 SiG Glaser Safety, 15 rounds) in the cockpit, 6 rounds have been fired already. The Naturalist has a Blackthorn Shillelagh in his carry-on and a hunting rifle and knife in his checked luggage. The Doctor has a taser and a first aid kit I her carry-on, and a sword in her luggage. The teenager has a switchblade in his mother’s luggage. The sniper has a first aid kit in his carry-on, and a rifle/pistol/ka-bar in his checked luggage. The Chinese diplomat has a folding SMG and an ASP baton in his carry-on. The other air marshal on board has equipment identical to the PC.

Bill Marks
Born in Boston, and a diehard Sox fan, you grew up wanting to be a cop. When the opportunity came along to join the Federal Air Marshal program you jumped at the chance, literally. Basic training was tough, and firearm training was even tougher, but hand to hand combat training was a breeze. You took the job hoping to travel the world, visiting exotic locales but it turned out to be more like a life of one night layovers in generic airport hotels. You travel so much that you don’t really have any friends, or a relationship to speak of, and since 9/11, the pressure to perform has become almost unbearable. Your current assignment is to escort a federal prisoner from Hong Kong to Atlanta. He is a Triad Gang Member and suspect in the assassination of a US businessman.
CARRY-ON EQUIPMENT:
You don’t have much on you, travel deodorant, a comb and travel toothbrush to keep yourself presentable, but no actual carry-on bag. A universal handcuff key in your pocket, and a set of handcuffs (currently on the prisoner), a Cold Steel Lawman knife, ASP Collapsible Baton, and a SiG P229 loaded with Glaser Safety rounds (one magazine only) are what you carry (concealed) to protect the plane.
CHECKED BAGAGE:
None.

Wong Cheong Fat
You were born to a poor family in the center of Hong Kong. Your parents worked hard to give you an education and food on the table, but it always seemed like too little. When you reached your teen years, you joined the Tongs, a Triad Gang that ran the neighborhood. These guys were respected, tough, and wealthy. They wore Armani suits, and drove sports cars. That’s what you wanted. You got trained early-on in how to use guns, specializing in 9x19mm automatics with high capacity magazines. You have participated in extortion runs, break-ins, and even been present for a hit, but last month you were given your first assignment. You had to eliminate a US businessman working for a pharmaceutical company that wasn’t paying protection money to the gangs. The hit went fine, but the man was connected back in the US, and a team of professional investigators eventually fingered you. Usually, the Triad would have had you killed or broken you out before you could talk, but the FBI are having you moved before they can get to you. However, a porter at the airport handed you a note a few minutes ago…
CARRY-ON EQUIPMENT:
None. You begin the game handcuffed.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
The note says that there is a red suitcase with gold trim in the hold that contains: A parachute, a handcuff key, two 9mm handguns, a fake passport and $10,000 US currency.

Huo Feng Shen
Born in Macau, to wealthy parents, you were educated in Hong Kong at a prestigious private school. You went to university at LSE in England, earning a political science degree, and subsequent MA in international relations. While studying, you were being groomed by the Chinese government as an espionage agent, and joined the Diplomatic Corps upon graduation. You are charming, intelligent, well spoken, and handsome. In a few years, you may even be given a consular position in a western country. But first, you have to put your time in doing courier runs for the government.
CARRY-ON BAGGAGE:
You are carrying a single briefcase, locked (diplomatic bag) containing papers related to a joint military exercise between the Chinese and North Korean armed forces. These have been signed, and counter-signed by both army heads, and must reach the embassy in Washington to alert them of the upcoming event. To protect this information, you have been issued an ASP Telescopic Baton, and a Chinese PP-90 clone (both in the diplomatic bag). Finally you have some toiletries to stay looking sharp.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
None.

Zoe Chan-Kephalos
Born to a wealthy Greek family in the Bronx, you attended Johns Hopkins University, where you completed a degree in internal medicine. This is also where you met your future husband, Adam Chan. He was a wealthy Chinese exchange-student also pursuing medicine. You hit it off, and embraced all things Chinese. You took up Tai Chi, learned Cantonese, and even studied traditional Chinese holistic medicine in your off time. You married immediately after college, and were pregnant within the first year. You gave up private practice, in order to have a family, but began work as a Forensic Pathologist in New York. That was 17 years ago. Your son is ready to leave the nest and go off to college, so you took him on a trip to visit his relatives in China as a present. Unfortunately your husband couldn’t tear himself away from work, but the trip has been fun with just the two of you. Even if Damien doesn’t agree.
CARRY-ON BAGGAGE:
Two changes of clothes, toiletries, and a sleep mask. You also carry a full first-aid kit with you wherever you go. You also managed to smuggle a taser through security, because you grew up in the Bronx, and you’re no fool.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
Enough clothes and supplies for both of you for two weeks. A gift from your in-laws to your husband is an antique (but razor sharp) Chinese scholar’s sword, for Tai Chi practice.

Damien Chan-Kephalos
Born to a well-off family in the Bronx, you grew up close enough to New York City to get your fix of the big city life, but far enough away that you had a backyard and a nice house. Your mom is Greek, and your dad is Chinese, making you an exotic mix (the girls think so anyway). Unfortunately they are both doctors, and expect you to always overachieve. So instead you don’t really do what they want. They are both really into Tai Chi, so you did Kick Boxing. They wanted you to join the math or chess clubs, but you took up parcour instead. They wanted to know what you wanted for your birthday, and you wanted a camcorder, so now you and your friends film each other spray-painting buildings, and pulling off sick stunts on rooftops (sometimes on your bike or skateboard). Last month, your mom told you that you had to travel to China to visit dad’s side of the family, but even dad doesn’t like visiting them, so why do you have to go when he is going to stay home and work? Still, you complained enough that your folks bought you an enduro to make it up to you. Life is pretty sweet sometimes. Too bad you had to spend the last two weeks in China.
CARRY-ON BAGGAGE: A change of clothes, spare sneakers, and a hat. Some toiletries, and of course, your C-Shock Ultra Camcorder.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
Your trip to China was super lame, but you did pick up a sweet Switch-Blade with a pearl handle at some knock-off shop. It’s hidden in your suitcase, inside a fake battery-pack (where you usually keep your stash).

Aaron Wyse
Born in San Diego, to a middle class family, when your high school guidance counselor asked what you wanted to be “Airline Pilot” was not the top of the list. You liked the outdoors, camping, and being physically active, but being a pilot was something that you really didn’t think about. Funny how things just sort of fall into place. Your eyesight was perfect, and you have good coordination, so when you went to college, you enrolled in the airline pilot program. You heard it was a good way to travel and make money, and it turns out that was true. You have been working for an airline for 5 years, and in that time have done stuff that you never expected. You had to pass firearm and hand to hand combat training, thanks to new security regulations. You took an intense emergency course that included parachuting, ocean survival, and even extended woodland survival. Finally, as a side project, you got your helicopter licence, just to have. You free time is pretty open, and you like to hike, and have taken up boxing, you like to get your hands dirty in the aircraft hangar, learning how airplane parts fit together. You might even consider building your own home-built airplane kit next summer. No kids, a good income, and some outdoor hobbies, not too shabby.
CARRY-ON BAGGAGE:
Spare uniform, toiletries, iPad Mini, iPhone, that’s about it. In the cockpit is a loaded SiG P229 for terrorist threats.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
None.

Sir Alfred Russell Ward, 9th Viscount Bangor, of Castle Ward
Born in Castle Ward, in the County of Down, in Northern Ireland, you grew up in the lap of luxury that only British aristocracy can afford. Your family no longer held any sort of political weight in Ireland, what with the Troubles, but you are permitted to use the title “The Honourable” in formal circumstances. You were only 9 years old in 1973 when a group of Irish Republicans tried to blow up Castle Ward, and kill your family. Since that time, you spent much of your life in England. You were educated at Wixenford, and then like your father before you, at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Army life didn’t suit you, however, and you left after becoming a captain. Wealth afforded you the opportunity to travel, so you did, becoming a naturalist (but not an environmentalist, as you need to constantly remind people). You travel to far off lands, do a little sport hunting, camping, and some field work, then you return home to Ireland and write a book that only your fellow naturalists will want to read. Your wife divorced you fifteen years ago, and the children are both grown and moved on. Your life has seemed emptier since the millennium, but a stiff upper lip and some strong whiskey can cure any lingering feelings of regret.
CARRY-ON BAGGAGE:
In a waxed leather backpack is a change of clothes, hunting vest, canteen, grooming kit (for your immaculate moustache), and wide brimmed hat. Tied to the side is an Irish Blackthorn Shillelagh.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
A gun case with proper paperwork for transporting a sporting firearm; inside is your CZ-500 Safari rifle and 25 rounds of ammunition, and an old MOD-4 Survival Knife in a leather sheath.

Corporal Craig Furlong
Born in Chicago, in a poor neighborhood, your only way out was to join the military straight out of high school. You were big and tough so you tried your luck with the Marines. Within a month of basic training, your scores on the shooting range were good enough to earn you a trip to the MCB Quantico for Dedicated Marksman Training. After that, you were deployed in Afghanistan as a point man of your platoon. Afghanistan wasn’t fun, but when you got leave, you always had good stories to tell. Unfortunately the war dragged on, and you spent 9 years sweeping buildings, and looking for IEDs under vehicles. One of those IEDs almost killed your Sergeant, Ken Lee, while out on patrol, but you managed to pull him to safety when you felt something wasn’t right. When Obama announced that your unit was being rotated home, Ken invited you to travel with him to China to visit his extended family. It was a great trip, and his parents were so happy that you saved their son’s life they bought you a first-class plane ticket home in gratitude. You’ve seen combat for almost 10 years. You’ve had a bit of a vacation in China. Now you can relax on the plane and you’ll be back stateside in a day or two, and back in Chicago by the end of the week to see your momma.
CARRY-ON BAGGAGE:
Assault pack with one set of civilian clothes, two sets of BDUs, and some odds and ends like a grooming kit. The assault pack has a hydration pouch (empty) and an IFAK.
CHECKED BAGGAGE:
A gun case containing your personal rifle (either an M40A5, or a DMR), and the military paperwork to transport it. 2 full magazines. Your service pistol and 1 magazine. Your Ka-Bar. Finally you have a suitcase with souvenirs from your time in Afghanistan.

SCENARIO #2: Highway to Hell

Hook: Upon leaving the Airbus A380 on the cluttered I-285 highway, the players are greeted to the sights of a city in chaos. Wrecked cars litter the roads, fires burn in nearby buildings, the sounds of gunfire echo in the distance, and the dead have been attracted to the sounds of the landing jet. 17 hours ago, the apocalypse started here as well. Power is flickering on and off, police/fire/ambulance services are in chaos and stretched to the breaking point. The National Guard is under siege, but loudspeakers in the city interior are instructing people to move to a standoff point/camp at the city’s center.
Characters: Those form the previous scenario, plus the following as replacements
11. National Guard Soldier (good combat skills, poor education)
12. Paramedic (witnessed the crash, athletic with medical skills)
13. Contractor/Maintenance Man (good mechanical/technical skills)
14. Firefighter (athletic, good with an axe, good in emergency situations)
15. Chef (food preparation, herb lore, good with a knife)
Line: The dead begin to swarm the airplane (which, remember, is also probably filled with zombies). The players have to run through a traffic jam of epic proportions with the dead approaching from all sides. There are other survivors here as well, but they are less than eager to assist a handful of crash survivors. They have set down on the interstate between the Dunwoody and Medical Center MARTA stops, the Doctor or her son can confirm.
Sinker: The immediate area houses a large hospital, tree cover on both sides of the highway, several largish office buildings, a large pond with a fountain at its center (spurting on/off with the electricity), and two subway stops, one on either side of the highway. The players can stay on the interstate, move up the off-ramps onto Dunwoody drive, or move cross-country to the nearby buildings. Smoke from the leaking/flaming fuel of the plane reduces visibility and causes choking. Other survivors are trying to get the subway tunnels, in order to get downtown without encountering the living dead.
Provisions: National Guard Soldier personal weapons (M4A1 +4 Mags, Beretta M9 +2 Mags, Ka-Bar) Contractor tools (Sledge Hammer, Crowbar, Workman’s Hammer)
(10 Randomly-rolled cars, prepared for searches (included hostile occupants/situations)
1. Contractor’s Pickup Truck: Bolt cutters, Hacksaw, 2 foot length of pipe, Propane Torch, Roll of duct tape, 12 feet of copper wire, Welder’s mask, Heavy gloves (SDC 11), Machinist’s Apron
2. 2012 Dodge Caravan, Maroon: Family huddling inside the van (mother, 12 yo boy, 8 yo girl, 2 yo boy), she is armed with a Revolver .38 caliber with 5 rounds in the gun and 2D6+3 bullets in one of the pockets Map of the city, Handheld GPS that is still getting a signal, Bottle of water (2L), Yo-yo, package of bubble-gum, Baseball cards, Rosary, Travel toiletries; small bottle of mouthwash, tube of toothpaste, bottle of antiseptic, Dental floss, Bar of soap, diapers, wipes.
3. 2013 Honda Civic, Blue: Samsung Galaxy-tablet, Nikon D-SLR Camera in padded case, Android Phone, Meat Cleaver (1D6+1 SDC)
4. 2007 Jeep Liberty, Blue: Survival knife (1D6+2), Bag of canned goods; 12 cans of tuna, 8 vegetable soup, 8 tomato sauce, 2 boxes of spaghetti noodles, bottle of ketchup, Cell Phone,
5. 2003 Chrysler Seabring, Silver: Vintage 1911 Colt .45 with fully loaded magazine (7 rounds, 4D6 SDC, 165ft), 52 loose rounds in a WWII-era pouch, Pocket atlas, Bottle of aspirin
6. 2014 Kia Sportage, Red: spare battery pack, Jumper cables, Case of bottled water (32), 2 blankets, Baseball bat; aluminum (2D4+2 SDC), GPS, Cell Phone.
7. Backpack full of camping gear; Small flashlight, Compass, Roll of string, Pocket knife (1D6 SDC), Package of trail mix (large), 2-man sleeping bag, 2-man tent, Cooking kit, Camp stove, 6 fuel cubes, Rain poncho (good quality), Crowbar (2D4+2 SDC), Survival knife (1D6+2 SDC)
8. 2010 Porsche 911, Yellow: 2D6+6 sticks of dynamite, equal number of fuses, 4 pounds of C-4, 2D4 electronic time-delay detonators, Demolitions Multi-tool, Black covert jumpsuit (+5% prowl). Who was this guy, and where was he going?
9. 1998 Toyota Corolla, Forest Green: Disposable camera, hand-drawn map to “The Church”
10. 2013 Hyundai Accent, Black: Dog whistle, Dog leash, Re-sealable bag of doggie treats.

SCENARIO #3: The dark side of the world

Hook: The survivors move into the subway tunnels to avoid the waves of undead on the city streets above. The platform has emergency lighting, shedding a stark white light over the tile and concrete area. There is no train at the station, and the dark tunnel looms ahead. With every flutter of power, the area is plunged into primordial darkness. Suddenly, the flickering becomes more insistent, and then the lights go off, for good.
Characters: Characters from the pervious two scenarios, plus the following:
1. Pizza-Delivery Kid (poor combat skills, but excellent area knowledge)
2. Lawyer (poor combat skills, but athletic, good looking, charismatic)
3. Escort/Hooker (light combat skills, rogue skills, attractive)
Line: The group needs to make their way to the safe-zone at the heart of the city, where the National Guard has established a perimeter. The subway goes straight there, only 13 miles (20 km) away. They just have to brave the depths. Unfortunately there are precious few resources in the tunnels, and the conditions are filthy. Grey dust covers the concrete and grease coats the sides of the tracks. Rats and the occasional wild dog haunt the area, along with much more recent predators to the tunnels.
Sinker: Fleeing down the southward tunnel and into blackness, the group used the lack of power to travel the line safely but the tight confines and echoes in the darkness keep tensions high. On the line ahead is a train, filled with the hungry dead, sitting dead on the tracks. The pounding of the zombies causes the safety glass to give way, and they begin to pour into the tunnel. Further down the tunnel, a water-main rupture has caused an inrush of water. The floor of the tunnel becomes wet, and as the group travels further, the water gets up to chest height, then the dead come, slowly through the dark waters. As if this weren’t enough, a brief flicker of the emergency lights announces that backup power is trying to restore itself, and the third rail is about to become electrified.
Provisions: Only what the group takes with them, plus random gear from the zombies they kill. Pizza-Delivery Kid (has a .38 revolver his boss gave him for rough neighborhoods, never fired, not proficient), Lawyer has nothing, Hooker has a switchblade and a Taser.
