Converting Demon Hunter from Armageddon Unlimited to BtS2
I was perusing through my copy of Armageddon Unlimited tonight and stumbled across something that's always been in front of me (I must have rolled cruddy perception rolls before in order to miss this!). Have you ever seen the Demon Hunter character on page 23 of Armageddon Unlimited? WOW! It's perfect for the Beyond the Supernatural setting! I noticed something, however:
The Demon Hunter's base P.P.E. is 1D4 X 10 + P.E. plus a bonus of 1D6 per level of experience staring at level 2. That's way higher than any other character in BtS2. Demon Hunters do get to use certain limited Circle Magic in the form of protection circles, circles to banish demons, circles of empowerment (temporary S.D.C. increase), etc. Some of those circles cost a hefty chunk of P.P.E., however, so I can understand why they start out with so much (average is 20-30 P.P.E.).
My question is this: How would you convert this character's P.P.E. and the cost of P.P.E. needed to invoke these circles from the HU2 world in order to adapt it to the BtS2 world? Or would you not touch them at all? And are there other things you see that need converted? This is such a wonderful character for the BtS2 setting, so I'm very eager to hear you guys' opinions, especially from those of you who are far more knowledgable than I.
I also posted this in the BtS2 sub-forum in case there are those who have some answers, but never venture into the HU2 areas. This crosses over into both worlds. Thanks!

One, All the chars in the BTS2 main book are Psychics. So don't have as much PPE as even normal chars would have.
The Deamon Hunter is a Magic char. So needs a high PPE.
Thus, no conversion.
Other then changing the skills format from HU to BTS.

May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

Cool, thanks for the input! I thought it was a magical character, too, but got confused when under the Base P.P.E. section of Step One of character creation, it said, "While not magic users, Demon Hunters learn some minor rituals to help in their task of fighting the supernatural." The way it's phrased threw me.
Have fun at Strategicon!

What I think they meant in the text was that they are not full mages (wizards) that cast invocation spells.

I'm with Drew on this. Not true spell casters like a Wizard, or Mystic Study, but can use limited spell knowledge like a Witch Hunter.

The big question is if this character will be able to go as-is in BtS2 with their amount of P.P.E. they start out with.
Thanks, guys.
Thanks, guys.

In BTS 1st Ed the mage only got 6d6 PPE, +1d6 per level. I'm not sure what it is in the new version, but that's a good place to start.

That's the problem. Mages aren't in the revised edition. Magic for the revised edition is going to be explained in the Arcanum sourcebook. I spoke with Kevin briefly about Arcanum while at Gen Con. He wants to write the book and has some great ideas about how magic will work in the revised edition, but there are a lot of other projects going on right now. I'm not sure when it's coming out. Sooner than later, hopefully. Based on our conversation, when it does come out, It'll be awesome!

I've kinda just used NB as a stand in for BtS2, as far as magic goes. You could shave a bit off the PPE if you think the character is going to be over powered as is.

Already stated my opinion about the starting PPE. Change nothing.

Since that is the BTS magic user, and this is a "not a fully trained magic user"
I would just reduce that.
Give them something like 6d4 +1d4 per level.
And yes, that will mean that it will be hard to use their circles.
That is intentional, since in BTS it is hard to use your spells as an Arcanist.
Plan ahead, use rituals, strategize...
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.
