Favorite area effect power?

Unread post by tsh77769 »

Which is your favorite (especially interested in minor powers) area effect power and why (particularly as it compares to others)?

Thanks.

As a GM or a player?
As a GM I loooove explosive fireball and Slow Motion Control. They are just all sorts of sick and wrong and truly epic for messing with entire groups of PCs all at once. Gravity Control is also just insane.

As a PC, if I can get it... Karmic Power
Seriously the ability to pose and shout about punishing people in the name of cute and justice while every bad guy in range is blowing rolls left and right is totally epic.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

For minor, probably Vocalization: you can blanket a 100' radius with a hypnotic command, which seems perfect for some situations -- though it seems you can limit that to whoever you're pumping for information or whatever, if you're in one of those situations -- plus you get the bonuses to skills and a pretty nifty grab bag of other abilities, from mimicry and modulation to subsonics and ultrasonics to awe and amplification.

For major -- well, they say Pause Temporal Flow "can freeze all time, or step out of time, depending on how you look at it." I'm going to (a) look at it as the former, and (b) figure even a little cleverness would let you work a bunch of different effects: you can make it look like luck, you can make it look like skill, you can be all mysterious and make it look like you somehow just know stuff, you can act like a brainy planner declaring that key items were planted, you can act like you're a speedster, you can act like you're a teleportationist; all kinds of possibilities, really.
