Gateways power

Unread post by SpiritInterface »

Ok folks, I have been asked by one of my Luddite gaming friends to get your take on a question he has on the power Gateways (PU1,73).

What if one of the locations you have memorized is the inside of a semi trailer, a railroad car, or a jumbo jet, does it move with them or is it fixed to the point on earth it was at when you memorized it?

It is fixed to the point on Earth.

But Earth is moving...

What about a satellite in geosyncronous orbit?

Or if you travelled to a new dimension would it be locked in respect to your new planet?

I would allow it to work on a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. And yes, locked in respect to the planet you are on.

As for traveling to a new planet/dimension... the Gateway doesn't move to the new planet with you since you were never at the corresponding point where it would be on that planet. You would have to set up new points to open gateways to... possibly sacrificing places back on Earth if you don't have any free links. And no... using it to get back to Earth (from another planet or dimension) isn't possible... nor is linking it to an object in geosynchronous orbit (1, it isn't on the planet, and 2, how did you get there to link to that location in the first place).
There are three types of people in the world; those who can count and those who can't.

For a Gateway that tries to form where a solid object is occupying the same space, either the Gateway wouldn't work (less likely in my GM book) or it would shift enough to allow the Gateway to open and the hero and others to use the Gateway to its full potential.
