Whats the highest you can get your PE?

Unread post by dyanrilliams »

I've been searching these forums for a bit, but can't find an answer. What is the highest I could get my PE? I'm pretty much using the main Heroes Unlimited book + the 3 other Powers Books. I know there is Extraordinary Physical Endurance. But is there a Supernatural PE kind of like how there is a Supernatural P.S.
Also I'm pretty much building off of 2 major and 3 minor. However I might be able to do 3 major and 2 minor. I've also considered taking all Skills that increase PE.

May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

To put it simply, there is no hard cap on PE like there is with most other attributes. The practical limit is 30 plus the bonuses gained from physical skills, class bonus and that granted by powers. How high this can get will depend on how many of the above you are able to acquire (and even then, rolling a 30 for PE is going to be rare... five 6s in a row is roughly a 1 in 50,000 chance of happening).
There are three types of people in the world; those who can count and those who can't.

I wouldn't say this thread is definitive, but I'll mention my idea: "figure a starting PE of 30, +5=35 for Acrobatics and Gymnastics and Running and Wrestling, +11=46 from the Extraordinary Physical Endurance minor power, +6=52 from the Growth major power, +4=56" from being an Alien of the Humanoid Elephant type -- plus throw in, say, Invulnerability and Healing Factor and Animal Abilities: Bear to get PE into the high 80s.

Which, incidentally, enables a lot of Growth.

And in my houserules version we dont use exploding sixes and nothing stacks, so the best you could get is the 18 from the initial roll plus the minor endurance power... so we top out muuuch lower.

I think Rifts: Ultimate Edition and Rifts: Canada offer additional skills not available in Heroes Unlimited which also add to P.E.. The skills in those books may be good to look at.

Wait, in a super-hero RPG you houserule things to restrict their stats so there's nothing heroic about them?

It's 'canon', not 'cannon'. A cannon is a big gun like on pirate ships, canon is what you mean when referring to something as being contained within one of the books such as how many dice to roll for a stat.

I would actually like to see this "Highest P.E. Attribute" question done with just:

Heroes Unlimited
Aliens Unlimited
Galaxy Guide
Powers Unlimited

This aint Rifts! This is Spar.... Heroes Unlimited!

Just as you can't combine EO PS and SH PS, you cannot combine EO PE and SH PE...

I wouldnt say that the kinds of heroes you create by not allowing stacking makes them 'not heroic', but opinions vary widely on just exactly what a superhero's limitations 'should be'.

Except they generally don't have a limitation that prevents almost any chance of heroic abilities, so that their stats aren't any better than any non-powered/non-super person. We ARE talking about a super-hero game after all, not something like Beyond The Supernatural where the characters are generally normal humans with normal human stats.

Just depends on where you draw the line really. Super abilities dont have prerequisites so not stacking ability scores wouldnt have any limiting effect on your selection of those at all. I'll agree to disagree with the semantics of your point.

It does weaken powers like Growth and Create Force Fields that base their power on how high a stat is (Physical Endurance in this case).

Oh I wont deny that. It definitely lowers the peaks of every power to non stacky levels, but those levels can still get pretty high without stacking.
If it didnt have any effect at all I wouldnt even bother doing it.
It's a precision tool that produces precisely the desired effect I want from it though.
Every table's different.

The example in the book for Create Force Fields assumes a P.E. of 9. Growth's example is a P.E. of 14. The powers aren't "weakened" by capping the stat rolls and bonuses. They just aren't allowed to get as grossly high as other players sometimes wish them to be.

Since you can use TMNT stuff via HU2 notes, you could just use the 'buy an attribute with bio-E' in TMNT Adventures to get pretty high.
