Because the Old Ones made them to counter the magic users that were fighting them. Maybe.....

I love the description of them.
...completely unaggressive, not even fighting to defend itself.
I guess the first time one was summoned the encounter went something like this:

Hey, dwarf fighter. Come here and whack this thing I just summoned on its head.
Uh, okay elf wizard.
Hits zavor with a club.
Wow, it didn't even try to dodge!
I know. Look, it won't even do anything as I pull on its tail.
Hey, you should try out that new spell you invented.
You mean my Fireball spell? Okay.
Fireball hits zavor, duplication begins.
Uh, what did you do?
I'm not sure. This didn't happen when I tested it out on the vampires last week.
Zavor duplication complete.
Wow! Now there's two of these things to beat around.
Arrrgh!
1st zavor begins attacking, 2nd stands there.
Ack! Get it off me!
Right! This calls for my favorite weapon! Magic Dwarven War Hammer of Justice!
Hits 1st zavor. It's knocked off and begins duplicating again.
What the?
Stand back, I'll do chain lightning on them!
Duplication now complete as magic lightning bolts strike all three zavors.
What's going on!?
Will you stop that! It's only making more!
Like your hammer helped any!
And finally, in the end, we now know what started the Elf-Dwarf War.

LMAO...I can actually see that happening.

So the truth behind the war finaly comes out...I always thought it would be more, epic :D

Cinos
Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless

I always thought of them as alchemical experiments, specifically by the dwarves. Though usually KS says as much if that is the case, it just fills in the whole for me. That and it seems a logical trap to leave for your magic loving elven enemies.

Is it possible to make shoes that are immune to Carpet of Adhesion out of a zavor's feet and/or skin? I would like to think that one can, but I'm not sure if in canon that's all ready been rejected.

I'd say no because making magical items is alchemy and its considered magic not to mention you may just split it again

there is no natural/biological reason as they are not natural beings. They were made to do so that way by magic.

Skin it first then make Zavor skinned shoes ........still dont think their abilities will work after they are skinned

Lynx

Just grab a pair of Zavor and tie them to your feet? :)

That would work only if I find two that hadn't been hit with a magic attack yet.

Well, wouldn't that just mean that you'd leave a trail of shoes behind you in the CoE? (Presuming the effect outlasts the death of the Zavor, and the tanning process.)

Rise oh post from ages past . . . and LIIIIIVE !!!!!!!!!

Zavor must have been an experiment in supplies, as they are perfect for demon hordes. 1 Zavor can feed the entire army.
