Damage from wards

Unread post by Jimbo »

OK guys, I can't seem to find/decipher the answer so I am asking. When using a damaging ward such as Death or Agony, does the poor sot that triggered it take the damage just once or once per round for the entire spell duration? Does this depend on whether or not it is an AOE Ward? Appreciate the help, though I am pretty sure my players may not. Lol

Every round the damage is dealt if the person is still within the radius of effect/touching the item so warded. The death ward even specifically states this.
If you are kind you can roll for initiative for when the effect hits.

My ruling is that they take it continuously until the end of the duration. The exception is those wards with an area of effect... you can get away from a ward with an area of effect, and can even block the attack from it if it has a physical component (i.e. close the door on a Fire ward, and it stops covering you in fire... until the door burns through).

Happiness is a long block list.

Thanks guys. Kiralon, I guess I just looked too hard for it and looked right past it. Mark Hall, that sounds rough, but that was how I was looking at doing it, which turned me against it so as not to kill off the characters.

What I have always wanted to know is if 10 feet of stone blocks the area effect, or can you effect people through everything.

I go with "If the effect is physical, then stone will block it. If the effect is non-physical, then only distance does."
