1. A kata is the martial art version of a weapon proficiency.
2. Waaay too many. Generally when the DM realises what a mistake he has made allowing one to be played (unless there is only the Jeridu, that is a little different) he will kill it off, and what kills a Jeridu usually slaughters the party too.

Well, I'm positive I'm correct in my analysis.

1) A weapons Kata is a skill that lets the practitioner use a weapons with the martial art Form. Without a weapons kata that corresponds to a weapons type (sword, staff, pole-arm,….) then the martial artist cannot use that type of weapon with that Martial Arts Form.
Within the WK is the WP for that weapon. So it does get the WP bonuses. (see ninja and superspies for a fuller explanations).
[difference between a MAF and H2H….the simple answer is Rifts only has h2h's and MAFs are found in N&S and MC (& in a couple of rifters).
The more accurate answer is that h2h's are simplified MAFs w/o the cultural stuff, extra skills, and w/o the Martial arts powers.]

2) Jeridu and strikes per APM….that has debated before and ended up basically The GM decides if they just get two or 4 or 6.
there are arguments about all in @ 6 melee attacks and arguments to limit them to just two.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.
