Finally beginning

Unread post by Whiskeyjack »

We finally managed to start roleplaying with the kids this past weekend. My buddy and I are trying to get the kids interested.
We did all the character creation and a short intro through the characters, and will get to the beginning of the adventure this Saturday.
We have 5 kids playing, ranging from 9 to 14, and my buddy is the "guide" of the group, to help keep them on track.
We're starting in the Wolfen Empire, with the group escorting a scholar and several scrolls and books to the Library of Bletherad. They're actually being set up from inside for the items to be stolen en route. It will be up to the characters to prevent this and deliver the items safely. This will be an intro to the Zealotry, which may become the theme of the campaign.
My buddy is playing a 4th level Kankoran Ranger.
My oldest son is a Wolfen Mind Mage.
My Middle son is a Wolfen Mercenary.
My buddies daughters are an Elven Air Warlock (the youngest) and a Human Were-Shaman (the oldest).
His son is a Wolfen Earth Warlock. All three chose Warlocks to start, but the mention of the Were-Shaman was too much for his daughter, which I'm thankful for.
Hopefully they all enjoy it and it turns into a long running campaign, as well as a longtime hobby for them. I'll post some updates on how it goes as well as some questions for others that have done this with their kids. I'm sure some issues will come up.
One issue I didn't even think about was searching for pictures online to represent their characters. I didn't realize how inappropriate most of the pictures of a female air mage are for kids.

They are in the MT. Nimiro book. Closest thing to original 1st edition PF druid.

Thanks for the tip Lukterran. I found a few good ones there.
The 9 year old is actually the most into it out of the group and the most mature one when it comes to playing so far. My 12 year old is the worst by far.

I love the were-shaman class. I detest the actual druid. I can't even read through the description it's so dry. The were-shaman fills in all the things I imagine when I think of a druid.

Congrats on getting the kids to play!
I'd love to read game synopsis if you don't mind sharing. Reading other peoples games is always pretty cool, and you can never guess what's going to come out of a kids mouth; especially in such a fantastic setting as offered by PB games.

Session two just ended.
The three students of the Ludus of Magic and the Mind had their final exam that involved them battling two Wolfen mercs and a stone golem. While they lost the battle, they handled themselves well, using their powers cleverly. They passed the exam, and were given their first assignment. They are to escort the scholar Cossus Arrius to the Library of Bletherad. He has a large collection of ancient scrolls and books that he discovered throughout the Northern Wilderness. The last shipment of texts were stolen en route, so they are on a new route with some additional personnel. The Wolfen mercenary, human were-shaman and Kankoran ranger have all been hired to accompany them.
The group was organised by Sir Korsito Sinken and is being led by Faustus Plinius Comitianus.
Their journey has started fairly quietly, although the ranger and were-shaman did encounter a small group of unknown humanoids closing in on the caravan. A failed prowl roll alerted the group to the presence of the ranger, and they quickly retreated farther into the forest. The caravan made it to a small village where they have booked into an inn for the night. That is where we left off.

The next session will have them travelling farther off the beaten path, as well as having their first encounter with a group hired to try and steal the cargo. I may start off with goblin thieves, then move up to orc & ogre bandits. They will be trying to quickly steal the cargo, without getting into a prolonged battle. They are very low ranking zealotry agents. If they fail, then toward the end of their land voyage, a larger and more insistent group will come after them. After that, it will be a group of pirates when they cross over to the island. I'm hoping they will all be up a level by the time they get to the island.

A couple of snags that I've got so far:
The were-shaman gets a familiar as per the 4th level wizard spell, but the spell isn't in the main book. Anyone know where to find it?
Payment. The warlocks and mind mage are all employed by the Wolfen Empire, but I'm not sure what they would receive as pay. A typical merc gets 150-200 gold/month, long bowmen, 300-400/month. What would the pay be for magical enlisted?

Magical Enlisted would be classed as officers

I'd say about 600-1200 gp per month depending on level if part of the army. +50% if on active dangerous duty, +%200 if hired as a mercenary.
But it also depends on what perks the wizard gets as well. Never underestimate the power of regular good meals.

We didn't manage to play during the holidays, but we did get one session in before.
The group had their first encounter with a group of thieves, goblins in the night. One of the characters heard them and alerted others. Several goblins had grabbed one of the chests and made a run for it. All three wolfen cousins tore off after them, to immediately fall over a trip wire. After getting up they resumed their chase. The wolfen soldiers surrounded the wagons while the rest of the group began tracking the thieves. The boys learned a valuable lesson about the speed attribute, as two of them quickly outpaced the other, as well as passing right by the goblins.
Eventually, after a lot of back and forth tracking with the Kankoran and the wolf, they recovered the chest as the goblins ran off into the night.

The following night saw an increased guard unable to defend against some thrown bladders of oil and flaming arrows. They saved the cargo, but the wagons took too much damage to continue. The group decided to send two soldiers back with the horses to try and divide their forces while the main group went cross country along the foothills of the mountains. They appear to have lost their pursuers, but were attacked by a group of harpies when they entered a clearing. Only two of them avoided throwing up during the battle, but they used some good tactics to keep the harpies off balance and defeated them. A couple of them came pretty close to 0 HP.

I decided during the holidays to bump them all up to level 2. They were all well over half way there, and have been playing well, and I came very close to killing several of them more than once. This will allow them to survive what's coming as well as give them the sweet taste of leveling. The warlocks especially will appreciate some useful combat spells.

One of the highlights of the battle was my 10 year old taking out the final harpy with a throw of his axe. Rolled a natural 20 to finish her off. He thought that was pretty cool.

After a long hiatus due to holidays, work and kids activities we finally got back to it last night. We lost the two girls to a visit by their cousin, so I kept them in the background this game. One of the kids wasn't liking Earth Warlock magic, so we switched him over to fire. I also expanded the spell availability to include any book that I own. I think it adds about 2 spells per level. He seemed much more involved this game.
We picked up right after the harpy battle. The fire warlock noticed another harpy in the distance apparently flying into the side of the mountain. The Faustus decided that due to the proximity to the road, they should investigate and try to kill the remaining harpies. After recuperating for the night they made their way to the base of the mountain where they could see a cleft in the side where the harpy had gone. The air warlock levitated up the 4 players and two soldiers. The cleft closed up farther ahead and opened up into a cave about 50' across with several ledges higher up and a tunnel continuing on from the far wall. They could hear occasional muttering and squawking from above.
The ranger, warlock and mind mage took up positions on the lowest ledges while the merc and soldiers went to the centre of the room and began making noise. The mind mage put a forcefield over them just before two harpies slammed into them. The one deflected, but the other hit with a natural 20 and did some considerable damage to the field and itself with the impact. As everyone laid into these two, the mind mage was pinned as a massive form landed on him. The dire harpy leader had entered the battle. The warlock shot a fire bolt at it, didn't penetrate the AR and decided that she was immune to fire. He went on to focus on the harpies. Another harpy also dropped down to engage the two soldiers.
The merc jumped up to engage the dire harpy who had been knocked off the mage with a well placed mind bolt and the ranger peppered her with arrows. They were both hit by her lava spit but seemed to be doing well until she landed a 20 on the merc and sent him flying off the ledge.
A few more arrows and a natural 20 from a telekinetic punch finished her off. The other harpies had already been dealt with by this point.
After the battle they noticed a large amount of refuse spread around the cave. A thorough search yielded an ornate quiver with 6 arrows (a bottomless quiver and 6 arrows of flight), a bracer (of cold resistance), an off white quarter staff (dragon bone), 800 gold, a water skin (container of much water), a cloak (of shadows) and a large egg that they believe belongs to an ice dragon.
They then turned their attention to the passage that actually ended very quickly. A globe of daylight and a good perception roll allowed them to notice a section of missing rock with what appeared to be wood planks behind it. It turned out to be a hidden door that was also unlocked.
Behind the door they found a house carved into the mountain. There was a kitchen, bathroom, study and bedroom. All the books were so fragile that they turned to dust when touched. The sinks had some sort of magic crystal above them that brought hot or cold water from the tap when touched. The final room was about 20' in diameter and contained two items. A crystal doorframe set into the rock, and the mummified corpse of a changeling that appeared to have died while crawling from the crystal doorframe into the house. There was an arrow protruding from its back. The only items on the corpse were a crystal ring, and a brass key.
The rest of the group was brought up where they would spend the rest of the day and the night recuperating and exploring.
After meditating, the mind mage found a stone chest under the bed which could be unlocked with the brass key (that also locked the outside door). Inside was a leather bound journal, a crystal rod about 2' long, and a double crystal ring about 16" across. He immediately fetched the scholar, to look at the journal, which belonged to Maelmar Prestida. He then started to try object read on most of the items they found as well as the doorframe. Out of 10 chances to roll a success on 5 items, he failed all by one on the rod. He was successful in figuring out how to energize it and it extended to a length of 8' with the sound of a sword being drawn. This allowed to figure out how to power the ring (still doesn't know it allows him to speak and understand all languages) and the double ring (campfire ring) which he now knows can produce light. I'm changing the Object Read power due to this. He'll be able to try again after a week.
They tried many clever and many silly ways to get the doorframe to work with no luck. Later on he managed to figure out the cloak as well (a cloak of shadows).
After resting, they left to resume their original mission, making their way back to the main road after two days of easy travel.
The next session will see the return of the book thieves in full force with about 20 orcs and ogres attacking as a unified force. They want the books!

This is their first intro to magic items. I'm not sure what the eventual plan will be for the house. They are employed by the Wolfen Empire. I'm thinking they'll be sent back to explore it in more detail in the future.

Tonights session turned out interesting.
They were supposed to have a quick battle with band of orcs and ogres. 20 in total against a force of 11. With two warlocks and a mind mage, it was set to go quick before routing them with a few sacrificing themselves for the rest to escape. This would be their first time hearing of the Zealotry from the lips of those they killed. I have planned on having them make it to the coast, catch their boat, and have another encounter with the group as well as an air warlock out at sea.
Due to the group just taking a head on fight against them, it turned into a full session battle that ended with three of the characters being taken out of action and two others coming very close. The entire group of orcs/ogres were killed or committed suicide after declaring that "The Zealotry will never die!"
Now I have to figure out the next stage, but I have two weeks to plan for that.
We did have a long discussion after the session pointing out what they could have done with their different abilities. Hopefully they spend a bit of time looking them over a bit to get a better feel for their characters before the next session.

We had a good game session on the weekend. No combat, just roleplaying and figuring things out.
Having finally made it to the coastal town of Skutvik, they met with the commander there and filled them in on their journey (they were several days late). They found out that an ice dragon has recently been terrorizing some of the villages of the North demanding to know the whereabouts of her egg. The group was tasked with returning the egg to the distraught dragon and try and calm her down. To speed up their journey and allow them to return to their original mission quickly, they were each given 2 potions of 6th level Fly as the Eagle and a map to the area that her lair was suspected to be.
They left the next morning after re-equipping and flew North to the foothills of the Algor mountains. After landing and figuring out what to do, they separated into three groups of two. One went straight up the mountain, one West and one East. The group that went East came across a large opening in the cave after about 45 minutes of looking (and just as their potions wore off). They called into the cave, but when there was no response they explored a ways inside. When the cave widened they decided to go back for the others. The Air Warlock remained at the cave while the fire warlock went back. It took about 2 hours to find the others and return (a clever use of fire bolt as a signal flare brought them back).
When they all arrived at the cave they went inside to fully explore, following it to the end where a large pool was found. With no other areas to explore, they set up camp outside the cave to wait.
A couple of hours later the sound of a large flying creature coming in fast was heard and they all ducked for cover just before a large adult ice dragon landed at their campsite with a deafening roar. Three of the group failed their HF check and were frozen. The Wolfen mercenary, Sigvaldi, stepped out to let her know that they found her egg, but her gaze instantly froze him in his tracks. The Fire Warlock Gunn stepped forward with the egg held out, but her gaze stopped him as well. The final functioning person was the Mind Mage Mottull. He yelled out that they found her egg as her open mouth reached for Gunn. When she didn't stop or acknowledge him, he used telekinesis to pick up the egg and move it toward her. She gingerly took it in her mouth and walked into the cave.
With the HF broken, the group settled down and waited. About thirty minutes later the dragon emerged and thanked them for returning her egg to her and asked them what they expected for a reward. The group declined any reward, stating that reuniting her with her egg was reward enough. She again thanked them and related her tail of sunning the eggs when the harpies attacked led by a dire harpy. She managed to recover and protect all of the other eggs, but this one was whisked away by the foul beasts.
When asked about the local villages, she apologized saying that she was not in her proper mind frame with her missing egg and she would leave the villages alone again. She then returned to her cave.
The group camped for the night and flew back to Skutvik in the morning. They had the day to relax and ready themselves for the boat ride to Bletherad.
The next morning a page informed them that they had a visitor waiting form them in the courtyard. When they got there they found an Elven woman in a blue dress waiting for them. She introduced herself as Maristatryx, and that she was there on behalf of a friend they had recently helped. She had some gifts for them as well as some information on some of the items the group had found on their journey.

The Kankoran Ranger Badri was given 500 gold and told about his items. He had a bottomless quiver, bracer of cold resistance and 6 arrows of flight (he was unaware that any of his items were magical).

The Elven Air Warlock Jastra was given a suit of Leather of Iron and told that her water skin was a Container of Much Water.

The Human Were-Shaman Hazel was given 500 gold and told about her dragon bone staff. Although it has no special abilities, it is considered a magical weapon and will harm creatures impervious to normal weapons. She was already aware of her Cloak of Shadows.

The Wolfen Mind Mage Mottull was give 500 gold and told a bit about his crystal items. The staff he now knows has more powers that will be revealed with time. The ring is a Ring of Tongues. The double ring is a Campfire Ring, and will not only provide, but heat and protection from the elements.

The Wolfen Fire Warlock Gunn was given a Stone of Elemental Power that will increase his spell strength and the range of his spells. It will also eventually increase his PPE.

The Wolfen Mercenary Sigvaldi was given an Ice Dagger of the Death Legion. It is 3' long and a rare uncursed dagger.

After giving them their items she walked into the stables. Before she entered the shadows she thanked them on behalf of her friend and said that she hoped the items would serve them well in against the coming darkness. She then disappeared into the shadows.
They are now preparing for their boat ride and wondering about her ominous words.

After a long winter break, we have finally managed to resume playing.
The group had a day and half boat ride to the Library of Bletherad. During the voyage, they were tailed by a Eastern War Galley. Preparing for a battle, bot Warlocks were successful in summoning an elemental. This turned out to be a good thing, as the galley closed in and began the attack. The air elemental spent most of the battle deflecting missile attacks, while the fire elemental was moved to the war galley through telekinesis to begin setting fire to the masts. The mind mage tried to grab the captain of the ship to bring him over, but was countered by another mind mage on the other ship. After a game of tug of war, the captain returned to his ship, the enemy mind mage proving too powerful. The battle was eventually ended when the Eastern ship dropped out due to the damage caused by the fire elemental.
The players ship continued on, safely making it to the island. They were met at the docks by a monk and brought up to the library. After turning over their weapons, they went for a bit of rest before meeting with the libraries representatives.

Last session we actually started to get into the overall meat of the game. Everyone has also hit level 3, so they are starting to gain a bit of power.
The books were handed over to the monks, one at a time, with a fair amount of ceremony. When the journal of the changeling was handed over, it caused a fair amount of discussion, both because t was not expected, as well as the content.
After retiring for the evening, the group went to enjoy breakfast on one of the balconies looking over the gardens. Just as they were finishing up, and earthquake stuck the region. The library only experienced some minor rattling, but the surrounding buildings were hit pretty hard. Brother Alangate sends for the group and asks if they can assist in searching the surrounding areas. They agree and are sent to check on a group of scholars that are excavating an ancient ruin on the side of the volcano.
It takes the group 4 hours to travel to the site. When they arrive they see the site in disarray with several wounded people amongst the collapsed ruins. The head of the group fills them in on the wounded, as well as several people who were inside a tunnel system which has collapsed. They quickly lend a hand with healing and digging out the tunnel entrance.
The mind mage, after healing, wasted most of his ISP trying to lift rocks that were too heavy. After about 15 minutes, they opened up enough space to get in. Heading in with a guide, they travel several hundred meters (with a globe of daylight), passing a partially uncovered side tunnel that apparently wasn't there before. Continuing on, they find two of the missing workers trapped under some rocks. They are quickly healed of their more serious injuries and brought outside using telekinesis. The mind mage and wolf stay outside (the mage to meditate) while the group heads into the recently opened tunnel to explore...
More to come in a bit.

The group followed a very short tunnel that ended in a circular room about 30' across. At the far end from the entrance was the only furnishings. A stone throne carved out of the wall. In the throne sat a giant skeleton with a monstrous head. The group searched around the room for a couple of minutes, after which the Gunn the fire warlock and Badri the ranger noticed a smell of smoke. At the same time, outside, Tobias the wolf started growling and raised his hackles. This brought the Mottull the mind mage out of his meditation in time to see the wolf dart into the tunnel. Mottull grabbed his previous guide to show where the others went.
In the cavern, the group realized that the smell was coming from the skeleton. They could see a small amount of embers spreading along one of the ribs. Thinking that the skeleton might be decaying from something they did, Gunn went closer to investigate. When he got close the arm of the skeleton shot out and grabbed him around the neck. At the same time, it burst into flames as it began to stand.
The group quickly moved in to attack, realizing that missile weapons would not be overly effective. Gunn managed to let off a fire ball, which did no damage, but caused the creature to drop him as it recoiled in apparent fear. Most attacks bounced harmlessly off, failing to beat the AR, but Sigvaldi, the Wolfen mercenary brought his Ice Dagger to bear and made several successful strikes that appeared to cause it great pain.
It proved adept at disarming people, as both Hazel the were-shaman, and Sigvaldi lost their weapons during the battle. Jastra, the Elven air warlock created a frostblade after seeing the effect of the ice dagger, although she only managed a single hit. Mottull came in late to the battle and attempted several unsuccessful attacks. While Gunn moved back and made people impervious to fire.
The tide turned when Badri the ranger picked up Sigvaldis lost weapon and went into dual wield mode, finishing the creature off.
By the end of the battle, the two women were in pretty rough shape, with a couple of others banged up.
They decided to take the head with them and return to the library with the research team.
During the night, while they took turns watching the skull (the ranger had previous experience with undead) it turned to ash and floated away.
Waking everyone, they returned to the excavation site to find the remains gone. Heading into the forest were footprints burned into the ground. Mottul, Tobias and Gunn returned to the library to inform them of what was going on and to grab some supplies, while the rest began tracking the creature.
And that is where we left off...

Wow! Seven months between sessions. We finally played again last weekend and will again tomorrow.
We had a new player join the group, my buddies daughters boyfriend. It was his first time playing. I made him up a Dwarven Knight who was working as an escort to a Wolfen Knight named Sir Droth (actually Wolvenar in disguise).
Mottul and Gunn returned to the library to grab some supplies and fill in Brother Taggand on what had transpired. Overhearing the conversation, Sir Droth and Sir Thardor volunteered to help. The group was given two scrolls of Magic Pigeon to keep in contact while the monks looked for information on the creature. Loaded up they left at a brisk pace with Tobias leading the way.
The other group began tracking the creature. It was made easier by the burned footprints it left behind. After half a day of tracking, they came across a small clearing with a circular dome of grass covered rock. The dome had a hole smashed into the side. Out of the dome walked the fire creature. The group began planning an attack (there was a lot of arguing going on as my buddy was running late so it was just the kids). While the planned, a second creature emerged from the dome. This one was larger, with bony protrusion covering the skeleton. The group decided to wait for the others to show up. It didn't take long for the other group to catch up. They again started planning, but had to act quick when the creatures began walking away.
They broke into two groups and snuck down the forested ridge to intercept. Jastra, Thordor and Sigvaldi all rushed the fire creature. When they were close to it, Mottul created a TK forcefield to keep them separate from the other creature. Both Thordor and Sigvaldi had their weapons enchanted with Frostblade. They attacked from a few different fronts and tried some interesting tactics, including levitating Thordor up above the creature and then dropping him to hit it from above. Between the ice weapons and some well placed lightning bolts, they managed to finish the creature easier than previously, although Sigvaldi lost his armour.
The other group moved to surround the creature. Badri began shooting from a distance, Sir Droth charged, and Hazel snuck around behind. Stone pillars erupted from the ground around the creature, creating some physical barriers. As she passed the entrance to the dome, the blacked out.
Hazel comes to inside the cavern the stone beast come out of. Inside is a large mystic circle drawn on the floor. One side of it has been wiped away. Also on the floor are the skeletal remains of two humanoid warriors (both Ashada). One of them clutches a faintly glowing bow in its hand that Hazel feels drawn to. As she touches the bow, the room changes. The walls disappear, the earth beast appears to emerge from the ground. It is surrounded by a group of people chanting a ritual. Two humanoids (dressed as the two in the room) fight the beast, keeping it away from the chanters. Both of them have otter like appearances with a membrane of skin that extends from their upper arms to their hips. Both of them use bows, although the female warriors bow occasionally changes into a staff when she engages in close combat. Several arrows made of lightning hit the beast and seem to cause it immense pain. During one of the hand to hand encounters she is hit by several blows and she falls to the side, obviously dead. The other being doesn’t scream, there is just a sadness that is very visible on his face, quickly replaced by a look of determination. He intensifies his attacks, leaping around the beast while shooting arrow after arrow into it as the chanters reach a crescendo. The beast attempts to rush them but the warrior is in front of it in the blink of an eye. With no other way to stop the charge, the warrior leaps into the arms of the beast. As the fatal blow comes down, a look of satisfaction appears on his face. Just as the blow lands a circle appears at the creatures feet and a wall of solid rock begins to grow around the circle. It lets out a piercing scream and tosses the body into the wall. The scene fades, to be replaced once again with the room, she walked into.
Sir Droth takes the creature on shortly joined by Mottul. Even Droth is sent flying by a well placed blow (I think I over powered this guy for PS). With the combined attacks of Droth, Mottul, Badri, Hazel (with her new bow) followed by lighting bolts from Jastra, the creature is taken down, but not before landing a crushing blow on Mottul. Luckily, Sir Droth is successful at bringing him back.
Shortly after the battle, a pigeon arrives with instructions on destroying the fire creature. They send a reply asking about an Earth creature.
They take a quick look around the dome, where they find a second bow, a quiver of arrows, a sword with a handle shaped like an Ice Dragon, a sounding horn, and a metal fan. They begin preparations for destroying the fire creature (head and body must be immersed at least 20' under water and at least 100' away from each other, when they get another pigeon with instructions for the Earth creature. They have to pulverize the bones and scatter the sand at least 100' off the ground and at least 100' apart. The group splits up to bring parts in different directions. A small lake on the side of the volcano takes the head of the fire creature, the body of the earth is levitated off a cliff. the head is tossed off of another cliff and the body of the fire creature at the bottom of a waterfall when a deep pool has formed.
The group then makes camp to recover from the day.

It was a lot of fun.
I have drawings being done of my boys characters for Christmas. I've been getting regular pictures of the progress (they're being inked now) and they look pretty amazing. I'll post some pictures here when they are done.

Last session saw a bit of curveball thrown my way when one of the players didn't show due to being on a filed trip in Europe. This session was going to focus a bit on this character and tie him to the group. So we skipped that part for now and went to the trip back to the mainland.
The second day saw the group hit a massive storm which the Wolfen vessel rode out without incident (except for sea sickness). The following day saw the seas calm and the group came across a vessel going down. Turns out it was the Eastern Territory ship that had attacked them on the way to Bletherad. Many people were clinging to debris and the group saw sharks starting to move in. The mind mage and Air Warlock began lifting the people out of the water and onto the Wolfen ship where they were disarmed and shackled. A few questions revealed that during the storm, something had hit their boat causing it to break apart.
About this time the mind mages sixth sense went off. Everyone got ready for something assuming an attack from below. The sharks suddenly scattered and everyone peered into the murky water. The fire warlock asked what he cold see and said nothing, the water is too dark, so he cast globe of daylight below the boat. I was not expecting that. The sea serpent that was charging up to hit the boat veered off as the light appeared right before it and broke the surface beside the boat instead of hitting it.
Combat was pretty normal at this point. Bows were used to shoot at eyes and the creature attempted to bite several characters. The mind mage kept using Super TK to push or pull people out of the way of its mouth (basically parrying). Most attacks, including magic were bouncing off it's hide.
Then the mind mage tried commune with animals. The serpent failed its save. He told the creature to stop, which it did. Then he told it to turn around and swim away, which it also did. The sail and oars were then put into full effect to move in the opposite direction.
The next day the group put in on the Northern Shore of the disputed land where they released the prisoners with a small amount of supplies and weapons and pointed them to Southwatch, much to the amazement of the humans.
The journey across the Algorian Sea was uneventful and they made it safely back to Skutvik to report to the garrison.

We did play for a bit longer, but left off in the middle of a battle due to the time, so I'll update on that part once we get back to it.
The kids have finally started thinking through battles as more than straight attack/defend and are exploring different uses of their abilities which I'm glad to see, even if they throw a wrench in my plans.
