List of gods

Unread post by ScottBernard »

Theres a list of deities in fiction at the wiki here;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_d ... in_fiction

But among those not listed are those from palladium fantasy, is anyone up to the task of adding it to wikipedia? Ive only got the core rule book.

That would be really cool - I enjoy the unique gods and goddesses created for the Palladium Fantasy setting.

Greetings and Salutations. Okay, so I quickly went through Dragons & Gods, Old Ones, Northern Hinterlands, and Bizantium for all the names I could find. It's possible I made a typo or missed one, so if anyone notices something amiss feel free to correct me. Also, if this is a list for original characters only, some of these may not qualify (such as the Pantheon of Light & Dark which is based on real world mythology) and probably a few of the others ones. Anyways, here you go ...

Old Ones
Xy, The Great Old One
Netosa, The Eternal Darkness
Agu
Al-vil
Erva
Ya-ahk-met
Tarm-kin-toe
Ya-blik
Syth (lesser Old One)

Chantico

The Pantheon of Rurga

Utu, Lord of the Dead

Vald-Tegor, Lord of the Undead

Tolmet the Cruel

Gods of Light & Darkness

Thoth, Lord of Wisdom
Isis, The All Mother & Warrior Goddess

Apis the Sacred Cow
Pantheon of Taut, the Gods of Darkness
Set, Lord of Darkness
Anubis, Lord of the Dead
Apepi the Immortal, The Dragon God of Taut
Amon the Hidden One
Anhur, the Slayer of Enemies
Ammit the Beast
Bes the Depraved
The Minor Pantheon of Ma’ip
Sebek
Also includes Anat, Bast, Geb, Khnum, Meshkent, Nephthys, Sekhir, Seshat, Upuat, along with thousands of others.

The Northern Gods

Brgg the Destroyer (imprisoned)

Algor the Giant, The Northern Sea God (recluse)

Belphegor of the Sulphur Pits
The Four Demon Beetles (Phoe the Fire Beetle, Kra the Stone Beetle, Ti the Beetle of Fear, and Dra of the Green Mold)
Mantus, King of the Dead
Mania, Queen of the Dead
Murmur
Mormo, Lord of the Ghouls
Abrasax the Insatiable

Gainim, Lord of Autumn
Haezor, Lord of Pain
Lashgan, Lord of Midnight
Isurron, Lord of Mercy
Eternus, Lord of Destiny
Kuldun, Lord of Illusion
Semotra, Lord of the Wood

If you see a space between the god's name and all the others (such as Chantico, Kirgi, Utu, Vald-Tegor, and Tolmet), that's because they're not listed as part of any particular pantheon. Anyways, hope the list helps. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

Edit: Color Code (apologies if it makes this more difficult for anyone to read):
Red = Book 2: Old Ones
Purple = Book 10: Mount Nimro, Kingdom of Giants
Green = Book 13: Northern Hinterlands
Blue = Sourcebook: Bizantium and the Northern Islands
Unhighlighted (the majority) = Sourcebook: Dragons & Gods

Now I understand why noone else wanted to do it. I added it all only to have the whole lot deleted soon after for not citing sources. Never mind that nothing on the page cites sources. Gah. Forget it. At least we have it here or maybe Prysus would like to add it to the lists on his site.

Greetings and Salutations. Sources ... like which book they're in?* I can provide that. :P If they need something more, then I guess we're truly out of luck. Farewell and safe journeys.

It seems this is actually their issue:
if subjects are notable, please create cited articles first

It sounds like you were putting them on the page as links, but there are no pages which the links go to? Basically they're saying to make the individual pages that you're linking to first, then make the list on this page that links to those pages.

You could also consider doing this in a manner similar to how the D&D sections are, where you link just to one page for the deities/pantheons of that game, and that page has the list.

Or a little of both, where you make a page (say, List_of_Palladium_Fantasy_deities) and list out all the gods, demons, old ones, etcetera there and then on the page you were trying to originally edit, you link to the appropriate sections/entries on the Palladium Fantasy deity page.

This could be a fun project!

ok so i've re-added the list to the wiki page, but i went through and removed the link parts to everything but the PFRPG page.. hopefully this will be more acceptable to those who watch the page.

i would suggest however that creating a dedicated page to the deities, with details on each, and then linking that rather than having the list would be preferred even over the current. i can see people wanting to remove this list due to the lack of details on what all these are..

should this list include the rifter 9.5 "unlikely gods" article contents?

I would only include the Rifter stuff if it's noted as "official" material.

ok someone deleted them using 'notability' as their excuse. as if any other entry on the page is any more 'notable' than the PFRPG stuff.

Edit war! :D
Well, yea its annoying for people to decide that some obscure stuff is worth listing and some isn't.
Though you would think they would just flag it instead

<edit>
It seems that to be included you need to be able to provide links to other material.
So basically you will have to provide links to the books they gods appear in, possibly mention where the various pantheons first appear, etc.
All properly linked and cited.
Yeah, its gonna be a pain
And is probably why the major franchises are up and not minor ones...
...because the amount of work involved to make it work is, to borrow a meme, over 9000
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

I noticed this weekend that there are gods listed in the Nimro book, under the Blade Priest O.C.C..

There are also some sort of creatures that live off of fungus and automatically become undead when they die... they have idols for gods they worship but since this species never communicates with outsiders nobody knows what they are and scholars have provided names to the beings those statues represent, assuming they must be gods of some kind.

Greetings and Salutations. I've added the Pantheon of the Blade to the list. Nice find. :ok: I don't know the fungus creature reference though, so I'll have to have a bit more specific of a location if I'm going to add them. Note: if they don't have names and/or they're not actually gods, I probably won't add them though. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

I actually don't know the Palladium Fantasy book/page reference, but they're listed in both the original Rifts: Conversion Book 1 (pages 146-148) and the Rifts Conversion Book 1: Revised (pages 164-166). They're called the Maxpary, and their undead versions are called Maxpary Shamblers. The religious info I was thinking of is listed below, and may be less worth including than I originally thought:

When they are not tending the crops, the Maxpary are involved in their totally mysterious religious and magical rites. Since no one has ever succeeded in communicating with the Maxpary, others have invented the names Drol, Allil, and Mal for their weird gods. Of course, they may not be gods, or even a religion, for all that anyone really knows.

Maxpary Religious Artifacts

Stone of Drol: Five inch sphere of black stone with a thin, white stripe. This object is reputed to be an essential ingredient to create a Raise Dead Circle, which can be used to either resurrect/restore a person who has been dead for not more than six hours or to animate and control 6D6 skeletons/corpses.

Stone of Mal: Eight inch, white, semi-transparent sphere. Used in ceremonies to control Shamblers and can be used to turn other zombies, mummies and even vampires. It may be a valuable artifact in Diabolist magic.

Stone of Allil: Seven inch, green stone sphere. This is a powerful artifact for performing water elemental magic (any water spell at a fifth level spell strength). Used by shaman & warlocks.

Treasure Spheres: The Maxpary create a number of hollow metal globes of gold, silver or other metals. Value varies according to amount of metal. Occasionally, gems, magic items and other artifacts are sealed inside the globes (one in ten).
