Question about the Fire Warlock spell "Eternal Flame"

Unread post by Glistam »

The Fire Warlock spell "Eternal Flame," is it just a visual flame or does it produce heat, set combustibles ablaze, deal damage to those who touch it, etc?

IMO, it is just a visual flame.

The spell text is the same as it was in the PF1 MB.

I would say other then it can't be extingished, it has all the stats of a normal flame.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.
Each question should be give the canon answer 1st, then you can proclaim your house rules.

Greetings and Salutations. I'd personally say that it's a flame. This is based on the fact there's no text suggesting it doesn't create those things like a normal flame (example, Blue Flame mentions it doesn't burn like normal fire). The description does still use terms such as "a one foot tall flame that will burn for centuries" and "This flame ..." Twice it's called a flame (not just a fancy spell name like Flame of Life, but this is an actual flame) and it uses the descriptive "burn" as well. I see no reason to think that ... well, it's not a flame (one that is magically fueled). That's my take on the matter. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

Well, if it doesn't generate heat, then all the plans to get free power by using it to heat boilers and produce steam are bunk.

My interpretation has always been that it produces heat and light exactly like a conventional flame would.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.

If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.
