Hired help on an adventure.

Unread post by Jerell »

So the last few times I've ran in Grug's Palladium Fantasy campaign, we decided we needed a torch bearer/healing potion caddy. We were in a City "Goblia" in the Old Kingdom, mainly Goblins, Kobolds, Orcs and such. There was no adventurer's for hire place or anything like that, and we got the idea while planning the next mission in the local cantina. The characters were local heroes, helping defend the city from hostile neighbors some months back. So they were somewhat well known, that usually helps with the advertising for hiring. After canvasing a few prospects, we ended up hiring a female Kobold go-go dancer named Sae-leen as a torch bearer, right out of the cantina (We also wanted someone who might be able to server as a distraction so it ended up being perfect). The funny thing is this NPC hireling we picked up on a whim, has been more help over the last few adventures than any we've encountered in a while.

I was just curious if anyone else has had good luck or a funny story involving NPC hirelings. Do people even use hirelings these days?

A God Rebuilt has a boat full of hirelings that has been fairly helpful. Doing handy things like, stopping the boat from sinking, and getting eaten by the sea serpent instead of the player.
