Greetings and Salutations. All this talk of sacrifices in another thread got me to thinking and came up with this little item. I just typed this up tonight (not taking very long with it), so not sure how well it works or anything. This is an idea, and I'm open to suggestions. Hope you enjoy.
Farewell and safe journeys for now.
Wizard's Dagger
Magic Item
One of the greatest weaknesses of magic users is their limit of energy (P.P.E.). The Wizard's Dagger is designed to help counter this vulnerability by acting as a source of renewable P.P.E. The true source of the dagger's power is the Blood Stone within the hilt, a red gem similar in appearance to a ruby but with a thick swirling liquid inside. Blood Stones are a magical creation forged by Alchemists whose secrets remain a mystery, though there are rumors that each Blood Stone is really the heart of a newborn baby that's been magically transformed into crystal. Those who use the Wizard's Dagger tend to be the sort who don't care if it's true or simply don't ask because they'd rather not know the answer.
By using this dagger in a sacrifice, the Wizard can channel the release of P.P.E. at the moment of death into the dagger and store it! There is no limit to the amount of energy the dagger can store or how long it can be stored, but it can only hold the energy of one victim at a time. In order to channel more energy into it, the energy currently stored must first be released. This allows a Wizard to use two sacrifices during a ritual (one stored and one fresh), or to carry around the energy reserve until it's needed and then simply take a new victim to recharge the dagger.
Note: While the Wizard's Dagger can be used in combat, it cannot be used to steal victim's P.P.E. at the time of death unless the Wizard knows the dagger will be a finishing blow and is ready for the release. Channeling the energy into the dagger takes one melee action. This means if the Wizard attempts to draw the energy and guesses wrong, he/she just wasted an extra attack.
