As they go up in level, the time it takes to craft/fix stuff should by rights go down drop. And if you were trained by a master (11th level or better), you can do a lot more interrogate detail and also learn some secrets.

Plus, with the blacksmiths with are close to water...they can have a water mill to help them.

In my GreenBrook game I had the pc's start out guarding a mobile hoapital.
