Okay...
So question.
What positions do we want/need?
Captain
Executive Officer
Sergeant
are all givens
But what about?
Medic
Mage
Cook
Quartermaster (Both modern version, or pirate version)
Clerk
Mechanic
Scout
Security
Science

And of those positions, which should be simply jobs, and which should draw extra pay.

Also, do we want grades with in positions?
Or seniority pay?
What about special skills pay?
What about, instead of a rank... that you get a set pay bonus for fulfilling certain jobs.
So, for example, if you have magic or psychic powers that you put to the groups use regularly and on demand, then you get paid an extra 10% or what have you?

There are a number of 'Senior Staff' positions that can be listed.
Spoiler:
Commanding Officer
Executive Officer
Second Officer
Third Officer
Chief Communications Officer
Chief Science Officer
Chief Medical Officer
Chief Engineer
Chief Tactical Officer
Security Chief
Chief Helmsman
Chief Navigator
Flight Controller
Chief Operations Officer
Strategic Operations Officer
Intelligence Officer
Chief of Operations
Morale Officer
Ambassador

As well as non-officer important positions such as
Spoiler:
Sergeant
Quartermaster
Reconnaissance
Chef
and more.

You can look up a large number of various lists of such positions. However some positions I think would go together in a crew such as ours, such as:
    Captain / Commanding Officer
    First Mate/ Executive Officer
    Sergeant / Coxswain / Boatswain
    Quartermaster / Clerk / Operations
    Engineer / Mechanic / Carpenter
Medical Officer / Doctor / Surgeon
Tactical Officer / Security Officer / Master Gunner
    Helmsman / Navigator / Pilot
    Science Officer
    Chef / Cook / Cookie
    Communications / Ambassador / Diplomat / Fence
    Reconnaissance / Ranger / Scout / Striker

And being in Rifts I think there would be at least one preternatural specialist officer/position, if not more, such as:
Magician / Wizard / Chief Magic Officer
    Psychic / Chief Psionics Officer

I think the Captain should be at a separate pay scale, the highest (though if we go with the Golden Age of Piracy model then Quatermaster would be at the same pay scale as Captain).
Executive Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Medical Officer, and whichever officer is also made Second Officer, should be at a level under Captain but above the rest, as these roles have much to do. Perhaps the Sergeant / Coxswain should be here as well in pay scale.
However all other officers/titled positions can be at the same scale here, just under the above.

I dont know how seniority pay would work unless we have a level of pay below the EX group but above other named positions, but I would only suggest one seniority tier, otherwise it gets complicated. How senior is senior?

I think special skills pay might cause issues, I am not sure that is a good idea.

Bonuses might work, if structured, but again, hard to do in a way that wont cause issues via competition for bonuses.

I misspoke last night. I`m in Idaho.
I am planning on seeing totality on the marrow.
Will reed the log when I get home.

P.S. edit…I ended up seeing totality in Oregon & it was worth the traveling there to see it.

Log, Articles, and new Who's Who is up.
Everyone got paid so, all PCs now have their salary. Payment was in silver coins with value based on the silver content.
Due to debasing, that works out to ~200cr per oz.

Update Again
Rangers have arrived at Hiroshima and begun disembarking and final check-ins and such to get all the t's crossed and i's dotted so we can get our visas and permits.

On that note I would ask that anyone that wished to file for a permit for anything (weapons, armor, magic items, etc.) get that list to me this week so that it can be compiled and review begun.

Also, It would be helpful if everyone could please decide on a few things for their character. Thus... its Teen Magazine 25 Questions About You Quiz time! (sorry, Lynette made me do it  )
Spoiler:
You do not need to share these, just have them ready to go so that if they become important people are not taking hours to decide what they are on the spot. With the exception of the bolded ones though these ones mandatory so please start figuring them out as soon as possible.

1] Birthday (not required but Lynette would like to know when to bake cakes :D) Lynette's is April 13
2] Their Totem Animal, yes we know that only Robin can actually gain abilities from said Totem. Traits please, we are looking at which totem would be the best fit for your personality. Once you decide on the totem or top two, please inform either myself or Kermit ASAP. Lynette's Totem is Hawk. This is because "Hawk is a small, feisty and tenacious predator ... excellent hunter. He is tough, resilient, and loves nothing better than to hunt and kill, Hawk prefers to strike at his prey swiftly and without warning, using the element of surprise as his weapon as much as his talons and jaws. For Hawk, the kill is what's important, not the battle or how one faces an opponent. If an enemy can be struck down without warning, all the better" It matches her personality and behavior and so for game purposes that is her Totem.
3] Their favorite color. Lynette's favorite colors are "Camouflages" and "Pink"
4] Please have (and run past Kermit, not me) at least your immediate family. That is, parents, siblings and any children biological or adopted. Also... in your extended family, who is your favorite relative, who is your least favorite.
5] Greatest Fear
6] How they see themselves. Noble hero? Monster? Do they put up a brave face to the world to hide inner doubts... what do they see in their hearts of hearts.
7] Greatest Regret
8] Greatest Shame
9] If they could change one thing about their past, what would it be
10] Greatest Resentment
11] Greatest Hatred]12] Have they ever been in love? If so who was it? What happened?
13] Greatest Love
14] Greatest Desire (do they want power, fame, fortune, world peace, etc.)
15] If they could have one wish what would it be?
16] if they could have three wishes, what would they be?
17] What one task or action or killing/saving one person would they be willing to sacrifice their life for, if any.
18] If they could learn one skill what would it be?
19] If they could learn one language what would it be?
20] If they could learn to use one weapon what would it be. Pick both the modern weapon, the ancient weapon, and which of the two is more desired
21] If they could gain just one spell what would it be?
22] If they could gain just one Psychic power what would it be?
23] If you could resurrect one person who would it be?
24] If you could get (and use freely) any one item in the Megaverse that you character has heard of... what would they ask for?
25] What is their most treasured possession (none is a valid answer)

I need to address something important to the game - several of you have created characters that may have some knowledge of the world arround them. It is important to know that our rifts world has some pretty large differences over the world that appears in the rifts world books. Most of the differences are not necessarily going to be publically known. Even the history of certain groups of people is abit different then listed in the books based upon a few things that the book authors A. Might have been unaware of, or B. Did not do a good job of modeling at the time the books were written. Case in point - the japan book does a horrible job of portraying the Japanese Self Defense force and the US military presence in Japan. It also does a horible job with regards to the robots and mutant animals that are present in japan. The population numbers that you see in the japan book are with regards to the human and dbee populations. The republic of japan has roughly the same poulation in mutant animals and robots.

Eli and I have talked extensively about this but not all of it is revealed to the team as a whole because specific info is not important for most folks to have in most cases. We will let you know when there is info that your character would have that is germain to the story.

This is a game and the not knowing about things and the need to interact with the world outside of the group to get intel is a part of the fun of it. It began as an exploration game and as such changes to the world exist such that exploration and interaction are needed to learn about it.

Happy Gaming !

This is info that the PC's will know much of. They wont necessarily have all the details but they will know the general knowledge because they were a part of events.

1. The team learned that the navy is a part of the us military.

2. History - There was a small navy surface force that survived the rifts along with a modest submarine force. They used the surface force to defend guam, hawaii, and some oather minor islands as they rebuilt. They also had some merchant and fishing vessels that survived and the navy protected them and reestablished trade with the tech cities of australia as well as the survivors of tritonia and japan.

3. The air force and navy seals organized what was at the time the largest special operation in conjunction with core members of Redtail Rangers to rescue and relocate archie. In addition all of cheyene mountain was cleaned out. The other half of the complex was located and the team was instrumental in helping to get into the base. It turned out that the other half of the base contained a small chromium factory - where Martin and his buddies developed the technology and made the prototypes. Also norad had expanded and it had a secret airbase specifically to defend norad and for quick response special operations related to norad.

4. Dr. Martin Harris Mckenna and Dr. Pholus were invited to come to japan to conduct military research there. Dr Marten was taken into custody and based upon the testimony of various team members, and the video recording that lynette had, he was found guilty and ordered to serve five years at the new research facility without liberty. In effect the lab became his prison.

5. The team escorted several individuals to Lazlo and helped to establish a Lazlo / US alliance. Lazlo provided a far amount of captured coalition equipment to the US for study.

6. The navy and special operations forces mounted the largest clandestine operation in the history of the navy. They attacked and stole the original glitterboy factory that had been located in vermont and taken over by free quebec. It was this operation that caused the qubecci to go to war with the coalition.

7. Dr. Pholus was instrumental in the vermont glitter factory raid providing his combat bot minons as front line units, many of which got destroyed in the attack thus leading the quebec investigators to believe that it was in fact the coalition that had raided the factory.

8. While Redtail was in Lazlo for the negotiation of the alliance, he picked up part of the team's share of the space ship salvage. Members that were involved in the space ship discovery at the crater recieve an additional 10 mill credits worth of diamonds each.

9. The team's freighter under command of Tayver was hired seperately from the group to do some freight hauling for the us government. This is taking care of the crew's pay checks. However, the group as owners of the freighter are recieving a share in the profits from the freighter. Everyone in the group gets 250k credits to play with in japan.

We are fast forwarding two years - here is the situation:

1. Everybody is advancing one level. This means founding member chars that have been with the group since the start are now 10th level: Red, Robin, Jon, and Lynette would be covered by this

2. See previous post regarding monies for the group and crater salvage team members.

3. Any one that does not have language and literacy american and japanese now have them as 1st level secondary skills

4. If you all ready had all four of the skills listed above then you may learn oni as a free skill.

5. Magic users may trade spells between each other at their disgression

6. Learning of new magic spells outside of what the group knows is technically possible. However those spells are subject to approval. The issue is that majic is not prevelant in the republic of japan. Only the basic spells are going to be available up to about level 8.

7. We need an accounting of each member's plans outside of this. As there will be some goodies attached to it. So far I have:
A. Uriah and Aly are spending time with the military
B. Robin is working with children at the cultural center teaching native dance

I've got messages in my outbox for Kermit and Elikon, but they don't show up in my Sent items and I don't see a send button in my outbox. There is a GO button but nothing happens when I do click on it. I've sent a few messages before and haven't had issue, any advice?

EDIT: Looks like messages post in your outbox until the person logs on, then they get sent.
