1'st edition, Deluxe Revised. Military strategies are the thing to discuss here. Oh yeah and how much damage that land mine will do.

Probably the same thing that happened to Desert Recon. It got put on the back burner, and other project took a higher priority.

Probably look at Warpath to take its place.

I really hope Warpath makes it to print.

well it was annoucned several years ago. At this time I can only see it as being in limbo and nothing more for the forseeable future sadly. I just do my own stuff now and Ive tweaked the combat rules so I am happy with I have and would by this as a curiosity at best now.

Not really as nothing regard "modern combat" is really worked on these days. It's mostly Rifts with the occasional non Rifts book (Robotech or Dead Reign in the last couple of years) which doesn't really need to even attempt to take that into account by and large.

It was shelved partially due to the possibility it might offend people.

Really? Offend people on what grounds? I understand if they live in Detroit and have strong opinions about police one way or the other, but I don't think most players fall into that very restrictive category.

Can you give us any more info?

I'm not so sure about that. The book seems to have a bit of a curse. I know the version being written in the early 1990s was being worked on by Maryann, right about the time she and Kevin parted company.

I don't think anything as been as close since, though Warpath: Urban Jungle by Jeff Hansen which was not Recon but sounded very similar may have been in the neighborhood.

There was a press release a number of years ago stating that the project had been shelved. One of the reasons give enough was that the book would appear insensitive or offensive to the families and loved one of those fighting the real war.
