Rifts playing cards

UPDATE: Rifts® Poker Deck

One of the projects on the back burner at Palladium Books has been the creation of a couple of sets of Rifts® poker cards and offering them through DriveThruRPG.com, where gamers can order the decks on demand. This has been on the drawing board since our lovely meeting with the DriveThru people at Gen Con last year. Something we thought many Rifts® fans might enjoy. And now because the Savage Worlds game system uses poker cards as an “Action Deck,” we hope these cards can fill that role as well. We hope to have one or two decks available in a few weeks. More ways to game on.

*nods* I think these will be a good way to 'recycle' the artwork from the Rifts card game.

Depending on the numbers, PB might be able to get multiple edition out of that artwork.

Maybe even get a PF card deck together…..

I would buy at least two (if not more) decks.
Especially if they went two (or more) different backings for the decks.

maybe instead of a standard playing deck, make it a tarot deck

You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through

You'd better stand there's no turning back

Considering that most of us are going to buying this for use with the new Savage Rifts game, please do not do this. Well, please do not only do this. I do agree it would be cool to also have a tarot deck. :ok:

wouldn't make much sense to have a tarot deck with nothing to support it... the number of people who actually use tarot cards are fairly limited.

The the playing card deck is to go with the Savage Worlds initiative process and their magic system.
That is it better to have multiple decks of cards when playing so no one has to shuffle between attack rounds. Which is part of the reasons why I suggested producing multiple types.
Let's not get into mysticism.

just the initiative.
cards have no use in standard Savage Worlds magic.

In the games I've played they have. Course I was playing in the DeadLands setting. And the Magic users there are called Hucksters.

That is Deadlands not Savage Worlds core.
it is a special rule just for the setting (has to do with the flavor of how hucksters get their magic in the first place).

Okay…One of the magic char classes uses playing cards for it's magic.
That still does not negate combat being faster with multiple decks of playing cards. With just one deck you need ("should") to shuffle between combat rounds.

actually by the rules you don't reshuffle until a joker is dealt.

But yes two decks makes things easier.

*nods*
I was playing by how the GM ran his game…so *shrugs*
When I played Deadlands it was online and That GM had his own mods to play it online easier.
And I don't have the SW books so….what one GM ran and what another ran. 8)

The first Rifts Playing Cards deck is done.

UPDATE: Savage Rifts® for Savage Worlds

We continue to approve and authorize artwork for Savage Rifts®; looking good. Palladium is also working with Pinnacle to allow fans to create conversions and fan materials on the Palladium website and elsewhere. The official policy will be coming soon.

Rifts Poker Deck 1
UPDATE: Rifts® Poker Deck/Playing Cards – Coming Soon

The first Rifts® Poker Deck is done, and we are working on the second. One or both Rifts® decks of playing cards will be available at Gen Con from Palladium Books, Booth #823! Both will be made available on DriveThruRPG.com where gamers can order the decks on demand as well as directly from Palladium Books. We will have the complete descriptions of the decks up in the Palladium online store next week for pre-orders. Each card has a different art image and looks awesome.

The creation of a couple of Rifts® poker decks has been one of the projects on the drawing board at Palladium® for quite some time. It became doable after our meeting with a trio of DriveThruRPG.com people at Gen Con last year, and something I had wanted to do for many years. DriveThru makes it possible to offer such decks as Print On Demand items as well as from the Palladium Online Store. Since the Savage Worlds game system uses a poker deck as an “Action Deck,” we thought we had better finish these decks to fill that role for those who might want them, as well. Win, win. Everyone here has gone wild over them, we think you will too.

See our latest Weekly Update for some finished card images:

And the number of people who'd use a Rifts themed tarot deck for anything at all would be vanishingly tiny. It would literally have no reason to exist other than extracting a little more money from the hardest of hardcore "must own everything" Palladium fans.

Playing cards are going to be the big new product for GenCon?

You can go online and create your own playing cards for like $2 a deck.
Just upload the art and presto.

I hate to be a negative Nancy...but really?

Gonna skip the Palladium booth fer sure....yawn.

Savage Worlds uses a deck of cards for its initiative system. The cards will be rather nice for the Savage Rifts players.

Yup I think this was why they were added and really they are a low hanging fruit. They have all the art already they need and there are a lot of places that will do custom playing card decks so why not have a couple of them.
