Adolesent characters?

Unread post by Braden Campbell »

I can't recall if this topic has ever come up, but what would be the attribute modifications for drafting characters who are, say, aged 11-16?

I know there have been rules for children printed in the past (BtS, 1st edition)... but most Palladium games assume that the Player Characters are in their teens+. What about the middle demographic?

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.

I thought that BtS had all the ages.

Greetings and Salutations. Killer Cyborg is correct in that BtS1 has various age groups (Infant, Toddler, Child, Pre-Teen, Teen, Adult, and Senior ... I looked at it like 5 minutes ago but retyped the list from memory only). With that said, this is for a "victims" section (page 194 has the stats). As such, even the Adult stats are lower than the general player character stats. So keep that in mind.

If you're willing to expand your search beyond official material, there's an article in Rifter #16 called Teen Heroes Unlimited (for HU if you hadn't guessed). In there, they have stat modifiers for 14 and under, sixteen and under, and over sixteen (which is adult).

Hope that helps. Farewell and safe journeys for now.

Chaos Earth: Rise of Magic has stat rolls for younger kids in the section on Chaos Wizards.

Was there not a Spunky Kid OCC somewhere in the Palladium canon?

The closest thing I know of is the Chaos Wizard from Chaos Earth: Rise of Magic. The stat rolls for that O.C.C. covers Child (ages 9-12), Early Teens (ages 13-16), Late Teens (ages 17-19), Young Adult (ages 20-25), and Adult (ages 26+). The "Child" stats are re-rolled once the character becomes 13, but once the character becomes 17 and at each additional "age milestone" listed those stats increase by either a die roll or some set bonus number, depending on the stat and the age. The end result (by age 26) is a character who has more than 3D6 in each stat, but didn't get to have the option for any bonus dice due to exceptional attributes. This is all on pages 27 and 28 of the Rise of Magic.

I think nightbane also has some rules for this as a lot of the characters in that game are expected to be midteens. I think I recall seeing a squire OCC somewhere that also tended to be for young characters.
