Palladium, please actually give Palladium Fantasy an edit!

Unread post by Jorel »

Before you send out copies of the Anniversary edition, you should do yourself and everyone else a favor and actually fix errors and inconsistencies in the product. I recently received my copies of the Heroes Unlimited 2nd Edition 30th Anniversary books (2 of them) and they have glaring errors from the outset. On page 15 under the heading The Eight Attributes, the first time you mention Physical Prowess it is labeled Physical Prowess (P.S.):... It is like this in every printing of 2nd Edition Heroes. It makes it look like you don't care about quality when you put the same errors out time and time again and don't take the moments it may take to fix that small error. It would make the company look much more competent. I hope you put out a better product with the Fantasy book as I think all the lines deserve better. It really did bum me out to see that such an obvious error has never been changed. Almost like no one in the company actually read the how to make a character section in the last decade.

I don't play much Fantasy, so it would be great if the people that are familiar with the book could post the stuff they feel needs correcting here.

By "2nd Edition" Heroes, do you mean the "white cover" or the "revised blue cover", as there are technically 3 editions of Heroes.

Now that I look, it is that way in the Revised editions as well. The only version that actually gets it right is the original edition from 1984. Thanks for pointing that out NMI. Looks like it has been wrong since 87 so it a pretty glaring mistake in the beginning of the book for 25 years at least.

Fix the mistakes, yes, I would agree with fixing typos.
Change the content, please DO NOT do this.
Note: listing the PCC's as PCC's is not a typo. Let's not list them as RCC's or OCC's cause that what Rifts players can understand. If I said it once I have said it 1k times Listing classes and races as something they are not just creates MORE :crane: CONFUSION not lessening it.

LEt's try to not be insulting of the company whose Forums you are on. There are plenty of places where you can take your negativity.

Jorel on the other hand is providing constructive criticism.

I hope they fix the errors in the anniversary edition. It's not a new edition or rewrite so it should not be in the realm of impossiblity to do. Since the same errors showed up in the HU anniversary edition I'm not holding my breath as well.

That's not what NMI was referring to. The better quality control was specifically addressed as constructive criticism. The assumption that Palladium wasn't going to fix it was neither constructive criticism nor a request for better quality control.

It could very well just be a statement of fact. For all we know the book is already at the printer and they cannot fix it. To say they won't does put active intent on it...but they haven't made the effort to fix the error in the Heroes Unlimited book in the past 25 years. Why would they now?

Won't, as in the time between now and when it goes to the printer seems a lot more likely than ever. Opinion or no. I think it is a very valid statement as I brought this up very late in the game and they have been planning on printing this thing as it is for months. Seems highly unlikely that they would alter plans at this late stage in the game. Maybe won't is a bit strong in language, but it seems the most likely that they indeed won't do that before sending it this time. In the future I don't really see any reason for them to suddenly alter it either if they haven't now. However if they actually did do a Heroes Unlimited Ultimate Edition I would hope they would take the time to have a fresh set of eyes edit those books for the previous errors...if not any new ones they make in creating new material.

Well do you really blame the fans for being pessimistic that HU weill finally get errata.

Were not talking about as year, two or five. It`s been twenty-five years. So imo chances are good that they never will be a HU with errata. It may very well happen. Not in my lifetime probably.

And now I see the flaw in my request in that any alteration likely requires them to change page layout. It isn't as simple as changing the Physical Prowess (P.S.): it is currently in Heroes Unlimited to Physical Prowess (P.P.):. Because once they open that door they have a ton of work instead of just hitting "P" in place of the letter "S", and then saving and printing. They actually have to consider Errata and alterations to layout. Bummer. Still think it makes it look shoddy to have a mistake like that right at the outset of a book.

Even worse, Fantasy 2e was originally published in '96. I'd be willing to bet they don't even have a digital copy of it to just change, click, and save.

EDIT: And probably the same for HU 2e Revised, for that matter.

I bet they're waiting to WOW! us for the 50th anniversary edition.

I wonder if 'you' personally were in charge, how long would it take for 'you' to fix the typos and rummy jigg the errata? Maybe an hour or so? Especially since the typos and errors are pretty well documented and easy enough to cut and paste right in.

Oh well...

HU2 is not in a digital format, and I would wager Fantasy 2nd ed is not either.

Both books are pre-desktop publishing at Palladium.

It's too bad that they can't fix theses typos easily. I was considering picking up the hardcover Palladium Fantasy, if I could find a copy.

I was reading through one of my older books last night, either Game Master Guide or Adventure Guide and I noticed they mixed up a lot of the b's and h's. So bave instead of have, does PF also have those kind of errors ?

I have to assume they all do and there isn't much going on in the way of quality checking older material to improve the editing errors. If that Physical Prowess (P.S.) has really been like that for 20+ years in bold letters at the beginning of the HU2 book, why would we think they have ever taken such a thing into consideration.
