I actually prefer the idea that they employ bioluminescent creatures as light sources. There's a lot of interesting design space there (like, a "lantern" that's full of saltwater and glowing anemone)

As of "Bizantium," the Black Wall surrounds the entire continent. It's six or seven hundred miles to the south, east, and west, and more to the north.

There are seasons (it's not always winter in the Great Northern Wilderness, for example, and the Golden Coast has storms only certain parts of the year)...and the prevailing winds blow from west to east (Library). Given the tropical climate of the south, I have always presumed an "equator"...

Nah... I have the fortress sitting atop the Old Kingdom version of Castle Rock (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Rock_(Edinburgh). So there's only one real approach and the site itself is 250' above the rest of the countryside.

I would offer this: be prepared for the fact that the Players will be able to make mincemeat out of just about every threat they encounter which is NOT prepared to fight vampires... but will be slaughtered quickly by threats that are.
